I understand that you feel dejected but you are now better equipped for another attempt because you know exactly what went wrong: 1) you panicked, 2) timing and 3) not practicing AWAs enough. In a lot of debriefs I have read, people are absolutely shocked with their scores and have no idea where they went wrong. I am sure if you address the specific issues you listed, you will definitely do better should you decide to retake.

ibbys , Entwistle , thanks ! I felt good reading your posts in the morning. atleast something positive in my life.

ibbys, i dont know if I want to go ahead with a retake now. No point in giving another GMAT test. I will have 3 GMAT tests to my credit then, in one calendar year.

Entwistle, May be 480 does reflect my potential and I'm just not a candidate for b-school. Perhaps, I cannot perform under pressure who knows? If I take another GMAT prep test this week I might score around 600 and that might make me feel even worse because it will confirm that I cannot perform under stress.

anyway, thanks guys for being there. I know I've disappointed a lot of people, more than I have disappointed myself.

heygirl,

I am sorry to hear about your disappointing experience, I wish you the best of luck, if it is any consolidation I will be taking my GMAT again, and I know you don't want to hear it, but I would seriously reconsider not doing it again, if you need ANY help, please don't hesitate to PM me, I will be doing Quant/Verbal for 4-8 weeks, not what I wanted to do, but that is life

wishbone, best of luck with your up-coming GMAT. I wpuld have thought of a GMAT retake had I socred around 50 points below my practice tests average. My real score was a 120 point below average! That is no joke. I had not much issue with the content. After a few weeks, I was able to answer problems, understand explanations, think logically and critally etc. But, looks like I'm not made for the test. May be I might think of a retake, once my mind stabilizes, or may be not.
For now, I'm done with the GMAT.

heygirl,

as others have already said, u r mentally drained now. take few weeks(or months off) - i guess 2011admission cylce is not possible now, 2012 has lots of time.
once you are back with a fresh state of mind, you can then decide what do you really want to do.
though i would love to see you take your GMAT again, but again upto you.
I personally feel test day performance has a huge impact on GMAT(unlike other standardized tests). it has a lot to do with your frame of mind.

anywys,take a break,vacation may be..come back strong :)

Re: Share your thoughts on my GMAT journey [#permalink]
Hiiii!!!!!!!

It is exactly 2 weeks since I bombed my test and a picture of the day is clear in my mind even now :| . I'm considering retaking the test(good news or bad news?, I don't know). But ,this time I'm thinking of giving myself 6-7 months,no cramming or studying exam-style. Will work on the GMAT in free-style and slowly build things. I know I did not study for a 700 or a 700+ score but still the score that I got(480) devastated me so much. I'm not even going to book a test date. I believe we can book a GMAT date even on the morning oftest day(not sure of this though).

I took a break and now am thinking of getting back to the test. My only concern is I remember most of the OG answers especially in the Verbal portion. May be I need to get my hands on some other material now. Any suggestions here?

My plan is to get a basic grammar book and also develop my Verbal skills(economist.com may be :) ??) over the next one month. Not thought of the plan after this, but will start with Grammar/English.

Ok, GMATCLUB members and my friends , your thoughts/advice? :-D
