Ended up going with a timex model for $40. I'll report back after I get and play with it a bit
Posted from my mobile device
So ended up with this Timex model:
https://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5G971-Unis ... 473&sr=8-2but when it arrived it was DOA. Spent 15 mins making sure I wasnt just being stupid and couldnt figure it out, but it was stuck in some mode with any and all button combos unresponsive. Back to Amazon it goes. So far not so good. Awaiting replacement, lets see if I can get one that isnt a dud.
Ok so replacement Timex came in the mail (gotta love amazon prime) today. Threw it on and ran 2 miles. Dang does 2.5 weeks off the routine kill you.
I give it a 85/100 after the first use.
I wasn't expecting the world, but this thing is extremely user unfriendly. It may be the most counter intuitive electronic device I have ever used. It does read the heart rate decently though. I don't really like that thing you have to strap around your chest to get your reading, but I suppose this is unavoidable. You get used to it after awhile though...
So yea, underwhelmed, but I wasn't expecting very much either. If you are looking for something at the basic level (in price and performance), then this will get the job done.
