A. Cameras with fixed length lenses are too bulky for anyone but the professional photographer – INCORRECT – “anyone by professional” is too large of a set of photographers that are not even mentioned in the passage
B. Serious photographers are concerned primarily with superior image quality. – INCORRECT – it is an inference not supported by the premise above. “For the serious photographer interested in superior image quality” implies that not all serious photographers are interested in superior image quality.
C. Despite claims to the contrary, traditional film cameras are still the best choice for professionals – INCORRECT – film cameras are not discussed in the passage
D. Cameras with folded optics system generally do not produce image quality as those with interchangeable lenses. – CORRECT – “generally” is a vague enough term that makes the statement easy to prove. Test: Can this statement be proved with information in the passage? Yes – Since photographers interested in image quality chose interchangeable lens camera over folded, the inference must be true.
E. Price should not be a primary factor in determining whether to buy a particular camera. – INCORRECT – there is mention of price in the passage

D for me as well.

The argument mentions that "Only those serious photographers, who are interested in superior image quality" => prefer fixed length ....It does not mention anything about all the serious photographers.

Which of the following can reasonably be concluded from the above statements?

A. Cameras with fixed length lenses are too bulky for anyone but the professional photographer
B. Serious photographers are concerned primarily with superior image quality.
C. Despite claims to the contrary, traditional film cameras are still the best choice for professionals
D. Cameras with folded optics system generally do not produce image quality as those with interchangeable lenses.
E. Price should not be a primary factor in determining whether to buy a particular camera.

Can anyone explain what is wrong with B?

Also, no where in the stimulus the image quality of the two types of cameras is compared. SO, how can D stand any chance?

The correct answer is D.
B uses the word 'primarily' which suggests that the serious photographers main concern is only superior quality image and nothing else. It is too extreme.
D instead uses the word 'generally' which is not extreme.

I think it should be E, since the passage states that "When choosing a digital camera, it is important to consider each model's design, options, and limitations", so price is not the primary factor here, there are other factores to consider.

Re: When choosing a digital camera, it is important to consider each model [#permalink]
Reasonable conclusion expected:

A. Cameras with fixed length lenses are too bulky for anyone but the professional photographer
"anyone but professional photographer"...too harsh

B. Serious photographers are concerned primarily with superior image quality.
"primarily with superior image quality" again, too harsh. passage says "interested", not "primarily concerned". something else could be the primary concern for serious photographers.

C. Despite claims to the contrary, traditional film cameras are still the best choice for professionals
nowhere does the passage talks about traditional cameras

D. Cameras with folded optics system generally do not produce image quality as those with interchangeable lenses.
this is the correct answer. the author talks about how 2 different kinds of people should go about choosing their camera with regards to the importance they might place on "picture quality". the ones who do not care for great picture quality and do not want to tote heavy equipment around should go for folded optic system ----reasonable inference -->> the interchangeable lens adds weight.

E. Price should not be a primary factor in determining whether to buy a particular camera.
price is out of scope

Re: When choosing a digital camera, it is important to consider each model [#permalink]
In my 2 cents,
For the serious photographer interested in superior image quality, it is best to choose a camera that has fixed-length or interchangeable lenses. On the other hand, those who have neither the need nor the means to tote the bulky equipment may be satisfied with the compactness and portability of cameras that have folded-optic systems.

"On the other hand" is our signal word.It can be inferred that cameras with fixed-length are bulky equipment and that cameras with folded-optic systems produce inferior image quality than those with fixed-length lenses.

yes, only D is correct.
E is out b/c the passage does not mention whether it is important to consider price.
D is about the comparison between 2 types of camera, and surely, the former type of camera has the best quality image.

Nowhere it has been mentioned that primary concern of serious photographers is superior image quality, it can be one the many criteria.

Whereas, D - if D option were true, Y would anyone go for interchangeable lenses if the purpose is solved by using handy cameras?

This is a good question.
While A C and E can be easily rejected, B and D are close ones.

If we read carefully, serious photographer interested in superior image quality... , So there are serious photographers who might not be interested in superior quality. Thus, we can reject B
