OFFICIAL EXPLANATION FROM MANHATTAN

(A)While the phenomenon described in this answer choice very likely arises from the same factors that cause the discrepancy in the passage, it does nothing to explain the reason for that discrepancy.

(B)Non-combat sports are outside the scope of the passage, which is concerned only with combat sports.

(C)No reasonably direct relationship exists between this discouragement and the preponderance of left-handers among top fighters.

(D) Correct
This choice describes a situation that affords left-handed fighters a systematic advantage over their right-handed counterparts. If left-handed fighters are at an advantage, then there should be a greater proportion of them among high-level combatants.

(E)If this statement is true, then the left-handers who have trained under such coaches are at a relative disadvantage. This situation actually makes the information in the passage even more incongruous.
