History: Chicago Booth traces its roots back to 1898 when university faculty member James Laurence Laughlin chartered the College of Commerce and Politics, which was intended to be an extension of the school's founding principles of "scientific guidance and investigation of great economic and social matters of everyday importance." The program originally served as a solely undergraduate institution until 1916, when academically oriented research masters and later doctoral-level degrees were introduced. In 1916, the school was renamed the School of Commerce and Administration. Soon after in 1922, the first doctorate program was offered at the school. In 1932, the school was rechristened as the School of Business. The School of Business offered its first Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1935. A landmark decision was taken by the school at about this time to concentrate its resources solely on graduate programs, and accordingly, the undergraduate program was phased out in 1942. In 1943, the school launched the first ever Executive MBA program. The school was renamed to Graduate School of Business (or more popularly, the GSB) in 1959, a name that it held till 2008. During the later half of the twentieth century, the business school was instrumental in the development of the Chicago School, an economic philosophy focused on free-market, minimal government involvement, due to faculty and student interaction with members of the university's influential Department of Economics. Other innovations by Chicago Booth include initiating the first PhD program in business (1920), founding the first academic business journal (1928), offering the first Executive MBA (EMBA) program (1943), and for offering the first weekend MBA program (1986). Students at the school founded the National Black MBA Association (1972), and Chicago Booth is the only U.S. business school with permanent campuses on three continents: Asia (2000), Europe (1994), and North America (1898).
Academic Concentrations: Students in the Full-time MBA, Executive MBA, and Part-time MBA programs can elect to concentrate in one or more areas of study, although some concentrations' required coursework may necessitate schedule modifications for students enrolled in the Part-time program. The various concentrations are: Accounting Analytical Management Analytic Finance Econometrics and Statistics Economics Entrepreneurship Finance General Management Human Resource Management International Business Managerial and Organizational Behavior Marketing Management Operations Management Strategic Management.

Rhyme, as some other schools have already posted their deadlines and essay questions, so Booth was expected too. But Adcoms said us to wait until August 1st. Until then we may register and share our thoughts and ideas.

We know that many of you have been anxiously awaiting the release of our essay questions and deadlines, and we appreciate your patience. We have been vetting the new application for months to ensure that we are capturing the right type of information to best evaluate your candidacy.

Essay Question Explanation
Although you will provide a significant amount of information throughout the application, you have the unique opportunity to tell your story, in your own voice, within the essays. As a result, we have crafted our essay questions in a way that gives you the freedom to share what is most important to you. In true Booth fashion, we let you make the ultimate decision on what is best to include.
Essay One: What are your short and long-term goals, and how will a Chicago Booth MBA help you reach them? (600 words)
In this essay, we hope to better understand your path and plan, vision for your career, and why an MBA – specifically a Booth MBA – is necessary to help you achieve your goals. In responding to this question, you’ll need to spend some time thinking about your career, your passions, and what you really hope to get out of the entire MBA experience.
Re-applicant Essay: Upon reflection, how has your thinking regarding your future, Chicago Booth, and/or getting an MBA changed since the time of your last application?
For our re-applicants, this question gives you the opportunity to tell us what is different from the time of your last application. What has occurred in your life or career that has either reinforced or changed your goals? What lessons have you learned or how have you grown since you last applied to Chicago Booth?
Essay Two: At Chicago Booth, we believe each individual has his or her own leadership style. How has your family, culture, and/or environment influenced you as a leader? (750 words)
The goal of this essay is to better understand who you are, how your past has influenced you, and your underlying motivation and values surrounding leadership and business. A significant part of the Booth experience is helping each student define and strengthen their personal leadership style. Understanding yourself and your motivations is the first step in that process, and our hope is that this essay will help you start down that path. We are not looking for a prescribed answer – we hope that you will share your story.
Presentation: Considering what you’ve already included in the application, what else should we know about you? In a maximum of four slides, tell us about yourself.
During our last live chat in June, many of you were wondering if the presentation would be part of the application. Since we feel that it is such a valuable opportunity to learn about you, we have decided to include it again this year. We have framed the question to specifically address what you haven’t already told us in the rest of the application. We encourage you to look at your application holistically. Are there messages, topics, or activities that are important for us to know? If so, then the presentation will be an opportunity for you to provide us with this type of information. Also, it is important to note that this is not a design contest! We care most about the content, but the way in which you deliver that is up to you.
I figure most schools deal with these basic 4 questions: a) Why MBA/why us/why now? b) Tell us about leadership and failure/dealing with reluctant people. c) Tell us about a life experience, something personal, what matters most... d) Additional info
Booth's 1st question is option a). The second question is a mix between b) and c).
Are you planning on using the ppt for option d) (sort of "tell us about extenuating circumstances...").
Or what else?!?!?!? Like I know each person has a specific story, but I'm having trouble understanding WHAT PART of the story to tell them in the ppt.
Most schools have the re-app essay right at the end, Booth instead has it's re-app essay right in the beginning. This is the first time I am seeing this for any school. Why is this the case? Does any one have re-app statistics for Booth? - madzy
I think the placement does not really metter. it was placed there becuase it relates to first question.

Good luck everyone. I haven't even started school yet (Random Walks depart one month from today!) but it feels like my application was a lifetime ago...
Pace yourself. Start early, and work steadily. Don't stress out too much - everything will work out in the end.
