Worried about an unbalanced GMAT score

There are a few factors you should consider:

Your Q44 is not an automatic rejection, but it is below par for most of the top b-schools that want to see at least 80 percentile on both section (most would agree quant is more important than verbal). Have you taken a substantial amount of math-related courses in college? Courses such as calculus, physics, engineering courses, statistics, econ, and any other math-related courses would help with your Q44. Have you been working at a corporate office where you will need to exercise your quant ability heavily? Financial modeling comes to mind as I think about this. Basically, the point here is that you want to find ways where you won't worry the adcoms regarding your quant score. Those ways can be demonstrated via college courses, as well as professional experience. Honestly though, if you don't think you can raise quant by much, or you don't think you can score as high on verbal the next time, I wouldn't really think about re-taking it. Unless you think you'd be able to hit Q48 (or more) and V40 or more, the tradeoff isn't really worth it, in my opinion.
