Hello tfincham86, thanks for your question.
It’s tough to give you a specific prediction of your chances, but I’ll certainly provide feedback!
Your GPA is slightly low – this could be a slight challenge. I don’t know your exact circumstance other than death in the family, but you might write about it in the optional essay. The trick is to dispassionately explain the situation without being defensive or making excuses. And, if you can, reference an analogue that is a better representation of your academic potential (e.g., another class you took). A 3.13 is not the end of the world, by any stretch, but you are applying to top programs, so even the little things count.
Your GMAT is fine.
Ultimately, your competitiveness will directly depend on the quality of your work experience more than anything else, in my opinion. Both in and out of work, can you speak to “moments” where you truly led – influenced individuals/organizations, drove results, took the initiative? You will need to clearly demonstrate your leadership potential and abilities to the admissions committees.
Finally, the more you can cohesively tie together your past and current experience with your future goals, the more persuasive your story will be, especially if you can really prove why your desired career path necessitates an MBA. So many applicants want to pursue strategy consulting after business school. What makes you different? What would you want to do after a few years in consulting that would make sense given your personal and professional background? I think you need a compelling answer to this question.
If you can nail these questions that I raise, I think you could have a shot at the schools you mention. It really will come down to your essays.
I hope this helps!
Best of luck,
Brian
