Yes...it's a tough one! Probably the hardest of all business school essays to write, in my opinion.

I submitted my application! Ah!!

For anyone that hasn't submitted yet but is curious about interview policy here is an excerpt from the email they will send you after you submit:

"Interviews are offered by invitation only. Invitations for interviews will be sent up until the week prior to the decision date for the round in which you applied. We will invite you via email, and you and your alumni interviewer will schedule a mutually convenient date and time to meet. We hope to interview between 800 and 1,200 applicants this year, and offer admission to between 400 and 500 candidates. We expect to interview all candidates admitted to the MBA Program."

Did everyone get the email below slightly urging us to apply in round 1...? In any case, I had to push back to R2 bc I can't deliver a comprehensive package by next week. Good luck to all.

Greetings from the Stanford MBA Admissions Office. The 2011-12 application season is well underway and we hope you'll be part of it. Here are a few reminders.

Round 1 Application Deadline is 12 October 2011

If you plan to apply in Round 1, you must submit your application no later than 5:00 PM Pacific Time on 12 October 2011.
The application is available online.
Should You Apply in Round 1?

If you are considering applying in either Round 1 or Round 2, we strongly encourage you to consider Round 1. Over the past few years, we've noticed more applicants applying in Round 2 and, as a result, this round has become bigger and a bit more competitive.

You should never rush your application; the most important thing is to do a quality job. But if you're far along in the application process and have given yourself--and your recommenders--enough time be thoughtful and thorough, on the margin, earlier is better.

Is it true that Stanford disapproves of prospective students emailing/reaching out to current students/alums/professors with questions about the school? I had a colleague tell me that they prefer applicants email the admissions office with any questions.

I find this really strange. I understand that for specific questions re: admissions, the admissions office would be the best place to go. But why would they discourage applicants from talking to their own students about the experiences at Stanford? From what I hear, most people love it there... :D

Ah :-( My essays are still coming together...

Essay 1 has definitely been the main reason for this delay. I had to write so many versions before getting to the one which felt straight from heart.

Hope to finish everything by tomorrow.

Ironically, after thinking I'd spend way too much time on Question 1, it somehow managed to click really well. Question 3 is what I'm spending most of my time on at the moment. I think I'll be ready to submit my application on Tuesday, a couple of days later than I had anticipated.

Has everyone gotten their recs in yet? I'm curious to know if Stanford is as lenient as Harvard is with submitting recs a day or two late.

Working on essays 2 and 3 right now.

I'm happy with the way my essay 1 has come out, even though it required many, many hours of writing and rewriting.

I hope to submit my application by Tuesday too.

Hey guys,

GSB recommends the following word limit for each essay

Essay 1: 750 words
Essay 2: 450 words
Essay 3: 300 words each

My question is what if an applicant swap the word limit of first two essays?? I know the total word count should be 1800 regardless of the split and GSB recommends the word limit just for guidance but if some one swap the word limit of first two essays, will there be any negative impact? Your thoughts???

They have so many applicants! I dont think they can manage to answer every question

Reaching out to alumni is never discouraged. Infact it is encouraged a lot. I have 2 alumni and 1 current student helping me out right now.

And you are right about the people loving it there. For being the most selective school, Stanford is fairly humble and the people extremely friendly

I would strongly recommend against it. The word limits are there for a reason. Stanford wants to know about you as a person first and foremost, hence the big word limit for what matters most essay. If you still feel strongly about it, I would suggest talking to a consultant (free first hour chat possibly? ) and explaining your situation and see if it is feasible

The Stanford application asks: "Please list up to three part-time positions in reverse chronological order. List your most recent part-time employer first. Be sure to include both paid/unpaid internships, summer jobs, or other part-time jobs."

I have one internship in college and held two jobs during high school. Should I be listing high school experience (courier and own yard service)?

If the experience is good enough to be included in your app, why not? If you did something significant during these 2 jobs or have something worth talking about, do mention them. Just my 2c.
