Hi,

As a outsider - One may wonder - getting a admit below 600 GMAT is very tough in any top B school, But in HULT - people with 500 GMAT are given scholarships.

Was reading another blog - and the contents of the post were similar to the common apprehensions people have - but this was from a current student.

Instead of making multiple locations and churning out MBA like a factory product. Would it not have been better to first make a good brand with 1 campus itself.

Education - a business where you are not accountable for the finished product (i.e. placements for MBA) - is virtually a money minting business without any ethical social responsibility.

People are admitted - what ever fee- is received is contribution to bottom line - Have a higher printed tarrif and then discount it by giving scholarships.

No campus means - no library / no sports center / no recreational activities / no overhead expenses. The website does not have a picture of the business school even.

Renting a floor or 2 in a building a distributing MBA degrees for $ 30000 USD is a good business model.

No wonder there are a few people from Harvard etc associated with HULT - any business is good business.

GO TO HULT AT YOUR OWN RISK

I recommend doing your own research before committing to a school. You can't give a place $30K without doing any research, or else you may as well transfer it to a charity's bank account. This is true for hult or anywhere else.

They are actually trying to brand themselves as a "global" MBA program, hence the multiple locations.

I've got very little info on HULT, but I've gotta say this: every school has to start somewhere, and HULT has actually done quite well with its aggressive marketing to jump into the top 100. There are a few people who try and play the bschool game like an investment...get a scholarship at HULT, and forego an admit w/o aid at a higher ranked institute in the hope/belief that HULT's rise in both the rankings, as well as brand value will continue in the coming years.

In a blog like gmat club ..it is amazing that there is no current student or alum of HULT who can give a clear picture

So research would be tough ........apart from rankings we do not know anything

I've actually met some Hult students randomly at a bar a few months ago.

From our brief conversation it appears that Hult is a legitimate school, and that the students were satisfied with their education, but that most of them (at least the ones I talked to) were very close graduation but did not have jobs lined up.

To me Hult seems like a rather typical middle-ranking MBA program...

can you please confirm these basic points from HULT students
1. Do they have a campus or operate out of rented floor of commercial buildings

I don't know anymore about Hult other than the information I have already shared, but I would like to make a comment on:

Quote:
3. what is the placement of the previous batch - how much through career services

If you're considering applying to middle-ranking MBA programs at all, then you should already have a good idea of how you can use your MBA to find a job yourself. Strong on-campus recruiting and career services are generally reserved for the elite schools, and expecting career services to find you a job at a middle-ranking program is not a very good strategy.

If you would like more information on Hult then I suggest you contact the school directly or find Hult alumni via the internet and contacting them.

Just want to give a student perspective of Hult.

I cannot comment much about the MBA programme there as I was enrolled on to the MIB (Master of International Business) programme but from what I hear the programmes are quite similar. A bit about myself - I have over five years banking experience working for European banks in the UK. I would classify myself as mid-management and my areas of expertise are treasury and corporate banking, although I have worked in other areas including credit, project management and retail banking. I had always aspired to attaining a Master's degree from a good business school but had been putting it off as I was quite settled in my job and was progressing swiftly. Nonetheless, I felt that the time had come for me to be decisive and I sumitted my resignation in 2011 to pursue my Master's.

When I considered the various streams, the field that attracted me most was International Business. My career had up until that point revolved around finance. My undergraduate degree had a strong finance orientation and so too did my professional qualifications and experience. However, I felt that the time had come for me to gain a wider perspective of business, therefore I decided to specialise in International Business I considered a number of business schools including Hult, Thunderbird, Imperial, Warwick, Emory, NUS, UCD and Melbourne Business School. I took a number of different business factors including reputation, cost, quality of faculty, international experience and class sizes and in the end settled for Hult. This does not mean that Hult offers the most reputable or most cost effective programme. Nor am I claiming that its the most global business school. However, when all factors of consideration were taken into account, Hult offered the right balance for me.

I have provided a summary of what I feel are the positive and negative aspects of the school below. Hope it helps you make the right choice. I thoroughly enjoyed the course itself, but have found it quite tough to find a suitable role post graduation. Whether, this is due to the Hult brand name or whether this is due to the poor market conditions, I cannot say for certain. My guess, would be that it is perhaps a combination of both!

Pros

Quality of the faculty - The quality of the faculty was exceedingly good...not only did the lecturers/professors have strong academic backgrounds but they also possessed strong industry experience and therefore the courses were very practical. They were also in general very approachable and keen to optimise every student's learning experience. Extensive use of case studies was made in almost every course and students were strongly encouraged to think out of the box and come up with innovative solutions. It must be noted that much of Hult's faculty also teach at other schools including Cranfield, INSEAD, Babson, Rotterdam School of Management, Cardiff, Cass, Harvard, London School of Economics and Boston University. Many of the faculty members have MBA's, PhD's etc from top institutions such as Harvard and Cambridge.

International experience - In this aspect I would give Hult a 5 star. Hult is truly global in its outlook. Not only does it have perhaps the most global student body among top business schools, but the content of materials taught is also international in nature.

Scholarships - Hult is perhaps more generous in offering scholarships than other B-Schools.

Brand Marketing - The Hult management is aware of the importance of a strong brand name and is investing heavily in developing its brand. From the Hult Global Case Challenge to the Business Professor of the Year awards, the school is investing heavily to enhance its reputation.

Multiple campuses globally - Hult has campuses in Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai and Shanghai. These campuses provide students with the opportunity to study/work in multiple campuses and experience different business cultures, which is very beneficial for students aspiring to work in multinational environments. From what I hear through the grapevine, Hult is planning to test out a campus in Sao Paolo this year. Hult consider the multiple campuses approach to be one of its unique selling points and actively search for opportunities to expand their global footprint.

Speaker events - keynote speakers at Hult have included Jimmy Wales (founder of Wikipedia), Bill Clinton (Former American President), Steve Wozniak (C-Founder of Apple), Biz Stone (Co-founder of Twitter), Ronald Jonash (Head of Innovation, Monitor), Grzegorz Kolodko (renowned Economist and former Deputy Prime Minister of Poland) and Edgar Perez (renowned High-Frequency Trader, Edgar Perez).

Responsive management - The Hult management is sincerely concerned about the experience of students and is willing to take tough decisions if necessary. I know of a Professor who was fired because the vast majority of students did not like his style of teaching.

Action Project - Hult programmes provide students with an opportunity to work as a Consultant for clients on behalf of the IXL Centre (a consulting firm run by Hult). Past clients have included Raffles Medical, Nike, Philips, British Airways, Crosslane, Energy Logic, 3M, One Laptop per Child and Panasonic among others. Consultants (students) are tasked with challenging responsibilities over a 6 week period during which they will work closely with the client (in my case our point of contact on the client was the CEO) to meet the client's requirements. During this period, Consultants (students) also work closely with their mentors (who are Professional Consultants working for the IXL Centre, many of whom are former Monitor and McKinsey consultants). I found the Action Project to be a very important aspect of my learning experience as it gave me an opportunity to put into practice all the theory that we learnt earlier in the year.

One year programme - While Hult's Master's programmes (including the MBA) are intensive, students save a year in comparison to other programmes.

Cons:

Brand Reputation - The Hult brand is still not perceived to be among the top B-school brands. Though the school is ambitious and is investing enhancing its brand image, realistically I expect that it will take at least 5 years for the brand to gain good recognition.

Career Services - The Career Services at Hult are excellent in providing advice and guidance. However, the school does not have campus recruitment which is a major drawback. From what I hear, the Shanghai campus appears to be the only campus which has a somewhat active strategy in terms of campus recruitment.

Recreational facilities - The school offers minimal recreational facilities.

Library - Hult campuses globally have an extensive online library. But I find the absence of a physical library to be somewhat strange and extremely inconvenient.

Quality of students - While 80% of students are of a good standard, I do feel that there are some slackers and Hult needs to become more selective when it comes to recruiting students.

Hope this helps!

I did not find much on HULT on business week .
40% of the class is employed by graduation & School pays 3000$ for job searching trips (which is good ) but did not find any info
regarding employers.
Not even ranked in top 100 in any rankings .Clearly, HULT is a risky bet

No ones saying Hult isn't a great education. But most people primarily get an MBA for the career advancement opportunity. If education and academics are paramount, they'd be getting a PhD.

WHY Not To AVOID HULT

I was fascinated by the one-year plan, the range of Hult’s student system, and the opportunity to rotate to Hult’s campuses across the globe.

LIVING AT HULT

The atmosphere on campus was simply fantastic. We were all in the very same situation-we were on your own and about to get started on a new lifestyle for 12 months. We developed deep relationships, some of which have lasted right up until nowadays. We partied, studied and traveled and shared a memorable year together.

A GLOBAL HULT EXPERIENCE

My home campus was London, and I rotated to Shanghai.

I had always wanted to study in London for three main reasons: I had never been to Europe before the MBA and London was a huge-multicultural and 24-hour city that had also achieved worldwide academic recognition.

I decided to go to Shanghai because my family is from China and I wanted to have a different life experience in a place where the culture is totally distinctive from my own.

I am still happy with the choices I made in that time because I just loved both cities and I had the opportunity to learn and develop tolerance and patience, and a more open attitude towards different customs. Nowadays, I feel completely sure that I can adapt myself to different groups, places, and situations.

I feel tremendously lucky to have friends and Hultians to contact in many cities all over the world. I am sure that the diversity in the class is the most important benefit of Hult.

MY CAREER

My MBA and Master of Finance from Hult helped me more competitive in the job market, which helped me to get a good job at probably the most important Peruvian holdings. Now I have a job with greater responsibility and more experience of higher levels of management. Financially, I was able to triple my previous salary.

No offense to anyone, but it is funny about how the favorable posts have come from ONLY fresh accounts, and have posted a total of 2-3 posts ONLY about HULT.
These accounts were created in 2011 and have not been used for anything else.

I WOULD ADVISE CAUTION!

Definitely have the feel of being a little scammy. I just received a cold call from a Hult MBA rep, even though I've never shown any past interest or signed up for anything.

Re: AVOID HULT [#permalink]
Hello everyone,

I hope you are having a good weekend. I am writing due to the reason that I have some sort of dilemma when it comes to deciding paying a certain confirmation fee. First let me explain my situation. I applied to several business school such as DePaul, Northeastern, Rochester Institute of Technology, PACE and Hult. Currently, the only one that has accepted me is Hult International Business School. At this moment they are asking me to pay a 2500 USD fee. A sales representative has talked to me saying that he wants to give me a call to talk about the university but I know that he wants just to make sure that I pay the confirmation fee. I still didnt get any response from the other universities. The sales representative from Hult argues that there are others waiting in line and that I should hurry in making this confirmation fee. In some way I feel that I am being push and that they dont take into consideration the students. Lastly, this person wants to call me by next week and I know he will just try to make me pay the fee. So my questions are the following:

1) Should I just wait for the other Universities to answer?
2) Should I risk not getting accepted to Hult?
3) Should I take the call of the sales representative?
4) The most important one , Should I pay the $2500 confirmation fee?

Note: I will appreciate everyone's insight to my case. I have saved some money but I just think that 2500 is a lot of money to pay specially if I still dont know which university I will finally attend.
