Paraphrasing! [#permalink] New post 06 Sep 2012, 10:54
Being a non-native speaker, i often struggle while trying to comprehend certain typical English phrases or sentences such as "modern art owes less to X than many experts believe" - i don't know why "than" is used here and what type of construction is this.
There are numerous other examples, such as while reading a good newspaper article or some times while reading the arguments in scientific journal i had to struggle with comprehension and there is no one to help me with it; apart from Google where i usually stumble upon wrong sites!
Is there any section where we can put these sentences so that the members of this forum can help in paraphrasing in simpler words ?
Thanks

Hi conty911,

"than" is used with "less," "more," and "-er" words (i.e. harder, louder).

I have less money than Paul does.
More than 20 million users have logged onto my web page.
Jonas is shorter than Sally but taller than Hyun Woo.
