Paul ... Your take on my profile [#permalink] New post 14 Jul 2007, 10:38
Hi Paul,
I really feel great to reach you. I have gone through your book, and I must admit your analysis on the B School application essays is stupendous.

Following is a synopsis of my profile. Would appreciate your take on my chances to the top 10. Which 6 schools do you think I have a competetive chance of acceptance.

Indian / IT / 26 yrs
Working in one of the top 3 IT consulting company in Asia
Present assignment as a Business Function Analyst for the Software division of a Big Banking Organisation in USA as client. I have scaled up from a s/w programmer to this analyst role in less than 3 years. I am also the onshore-offshore coordinator for one of the business rules team of my project.

Undergard Acads: BTech in CSE from a state level Engineering Institute.
Overall 82.7 % with 1st class and distinction

GMAT: 760 (M-50; V-42; AWA-5)
TOEFL: 280

Ardent involvement in my Company's CSR initiatives. Organized, and executed number of pro bono community programs.
Mentored slum kids once a week as part of my personal endeavors.

Hobbies: have inclined to a number of them over the years. But mostly like reading from a select group of authors. Wrote and composed music for my college band. Also was the founder member and Vice president of the College alumni association. For 12 years I have been an avid artist. But since my undergrad days never quite picked a brush in my hand.
Necessity being the mother of invasion I have developed quite a bit of culinary skills in the last 3-4 months of my stay in USA. Apart from that I am presently building (and playing in) a cricket team with a few of my associates over here.

Post MBA: Strategy Consulting in the areas of Business and Public Policies. Inclined towards non profit management.
Short term goal: work in a micro-lending organization ala ACCION or Grameen Foundation
Long term goal: To set up a venture philanthropy and Micro Lending startup in my country. Also wish to work in an advisory position in the Planning Commission in India.

School Preference: Flexible curriculam, approachable faculties and a close knit student community.

Thanks,
Abhyutthan

Abhyutthan,

Sorry for the tardy response. I've been traveling and Internet access has been unreliable. Given your profile's strengths (e.g., GMAT score) and weaknesses (crowded male-Indian-IT demographic) as well as your goals, I recommend the following 6 schools:

Michigan
Yale
UNC
Cornell
Notre Dame
Western Ontario

These schools are all highly ranked by either U.S. News or Beyong Grey Pinstripes in nonprofit and you should have a decent to good chance at all of them.

Good luck,
