People who do not believe that others distrust them are confident in their own abilities, so people who tend to trust others think of a difficult task as a challenge rather than a threat, since this is precisely how people who are confident in their won abilities regard such tasks.

The conclusion above follows logically if which one of the following is assumed?

(A) People who believe that others distrust them tend to trust others.

(B) Confidence in one’s own abilities gives one confidence in the trustworthiness of others.

(C) People who tend to trust others do not believe that others distrust them.

(D) People who are not threatened by difficult tasks tend to find such tasks challenging.

(E) People tend to distrust those who they believe lack self-confidence.

Finally I guessed this answer
(D) People who are not threatened by difficult tasks tend to find such tasks challenging.

(E) People tend to distrust those who they believe lack self-confidence.

Someone please help to explain the answer. Difficult indeed (700+)

Premise 1 : People who do not believe others distrust them --> Confident in their own abilities.
Premise 2: People who are confident --> Consider difficult task as challenge

Premise 1 + 2 : People who do not believe others distrust them --> Confident in their own abilities --> Consider difficult task as challenge

Conclusion: People who tend to trust others --> Consider difficult task as challenge

In order to arrive at conclusion from the premise chain, we need to complete the chain.
C does that by saying that People who tend to trust others --> do not believe others distrust them

Premise + Assumption completes the chain of reasoning to relate one end with the other:
People who tend to trust others --> do not believe others distrust them-->Confident in their own abilities --> Consider difficult task as challenge

The conclusion above follows logically if which one of the following is assumed?

(C) People who tend to trust others do not believe that others distrust them.

Premise 1: P who do not believe that others distrust them => confident in their own abilities

Premise 2: P who are confident in their own abilities => consider difficult task challenge

Conclusion: P tend to trust others => consider difficult task challenge

There is lack of the GAP between (P who tend to trust others) AND (P who do not believe that others distrust them.)

(C) People who tend to trust others do not believe that others distrust them (them here refers to the "others")
