As always.... PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I ALREADY KNOW THE OA to this question & only interested in discussing grammatical reasoning behind OA. Thanks

The use of chemical pesticides in this country is <<equally extensive or more so than ten years ago. >>
(A) equally extensive or more so than ten years ago
(B) equal to or more extensive than ten years ago
(C) as extensive as ten years ago or more
(D) equal to, if not more, than ten years ago
(E) as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so

'B' appears to be the best. D changes the meaning by putting across atleast equal to.

(A) equally extensive or more so than ten years ago
(B) equal to or more extensive than ten years ago
(C) as extensive as ten years ago or more
(D) equal to, if not more, than ten years ago
(E) as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so

I pick "E".....

A) seems to be comparing extensive use to ten yrs
B) again seems to be comparing extensive use to ten yrs
C) seems to be comparing extensive use to ten yrs
D) awkward, seems to be comparing extensive use to ten yrs
E) correctly uses "it" to refer to "use".....correct, altho I don't like the last part "if not more so"

pick E as it's the only choice comparing the right things.

(A) equally extensive or more so than ten years ago

ackward, wrong comparions - need a verb "it was" for right comparison

(B) equal to or more extensive than ten years ago
equal to ten years ago and more extensive than ten years ago are both wrong comparison

(C) as extensive as ten years ago or more
Wrong comparison

(D) equal to, if not more, than ten years ago

Wrong comparison

(E) as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so

(C) as extensive as ten years ago or more

(E) as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so

(A) - 'more so' doesn't sound idiomatic to me
(C),(E) - awkward construction
(D) - somewhat changes the meaning with 'if not more'

I'll go with (B).

go with B.

equal to or more extensive than ten years ago

It's parallel.

(A) equally extensive or more so than ten years ago
(E)as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so
'more so' is weird. what does 'so' replace? extensive?

(C)as extensive as ten years ago or more
'more' what? sentence fragment

(D)equal to, if not more, than ten years ago
'equal to than'?

it is right. equal to ten years ago or more extensive than ten years ago.

It means '>='

(C) as extensive as ten years ago or more
Wrong comparison

(D) equal to, if not more, than ten years ago

Wrong comparison

(E) as extensive as it was ten years ago, if not more so
