PhD GMAT scores? [#permalink] New post 14 Oct 2009, 14:38
This will be my second time taking the GMAT. I know that this site is set up for people getting into the MBA but I am actually already an MBA student at UNM and my unimpressive, almost embarassing, 570 was enough to get in.

However, I am now looking at doctoral universities (Purdue specifically) and that 570 doesn't look so hot. So I am retaking the GMAT, I hired a tutor and took some classes on GMAT strategies, the test is 6 weeks away and I am not sure of how well I am going to do on it.

Does anyone know how important GMAT scores are to PHD schools? My CV is farily impressive. I have a very high GPA, I currently hold an academic position coordinating the SBI at my university, some of my research is currently under review and hopefully will soon be published, but is it enough?

I know that UNM is not a big ten school, but if I want to get into a big 10 school how much do I have to impress the admissions office? Will being a big fish in a small pond (no offense to UNM) cut it for an upper tier school? Any advice or suggestions?

Does a potential applicant also need a publication or two in the area of study? Would it help if the publication were to be in an area which is allied and is not directly related too?

Thanks! :)
