Please advise on Low AWA Score [#permalink] New post 09 Sep 2012, 09:17
Hi,

I am an Indian candidate and got my bachelors from one of the top engineering institutes(IIT Bombay) in the country. I took my GMAT 2 years back and my score is 720 (Q 50; V 37) and AWA 4.0. I am planning to apply to Wharton, Booth, Stern, Cornell, McCombs and Rotman for the class starting Fall 2013. How much of an issue would the low AWA score be at these target BSchools?? Considering that I would have to spend 2 months on preparing for my GMAT again, a test retake would significantly reduce the effort I could put in my application essays instead. Should I still consider retaking the GMAT??

Thanks,
Vikram

Don't worry about a retake. Yeah your AWA is weak, but it's not a fundamental aspect of the admission committee's review process. Prove that you can write in your essays and you should be fine.

I can tell you for sure that the AWA doesn't matter that much. I got my AWA score is 5.5 but the overall score is too love even embarrassing a little bit to provide here, so you see my man the AWA doesn't help you much, yes it would be great if you have 5.5-6 but at the end of the day the 720 (Q 50; V 37) speaks better for you. To this end, go get the essays polished and godspeed bro!
