Hi, could you please evaluate my profile.
I am a 22 years old male from Uzbekistan. Have bachelor’s degree on economics and 2 years of work experience. GPA – 89%. GMAT 760 (q51, v42).
I received bachelor’s degree from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the Faculty of International Economic Relations. There’s no better university in our country than this. I studied there for 5 years from 2004 to 2009. The main area I studied is Economics. Additionally we studied Econometrics (we had math courses in each semester of the first 4 years!), basics of Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Management. I studied very well and was outstanding among students. I have reasons to explain two B+ scores out of total 9 semesters (3 A+, 4 A, 2 B).
2009 Aug – 2010 May: I worked as an Accountant in a construction materials production firm.
2010 May – 2010 Oct: I worked as a Sales Specialist to Corporate Clients in a national-scale cellular telecom company. I thought that working in the large company would offer more opportunities, but the job turned out to be no better than my previous job.
2010 Oct – present: In October I quitted the job and, together with my 3 partners, founded a new IT services company. I am Chief Accountant in that company, solely because I have Accounting experience, and because for now we can’t afford hiring an Accountant. Actually I am running the company no less than other partners. I think I call tell many things as an example of leadership abilities.
I am struggling to choose between (strategic, general) management, IT, and entrepreneurship concentrations. All the courses offered in MBA programs are very appealing to me, but I think management is more suitable for me, because I’m going to run our company in the future. I like IT because our company offers IT services and because I have a strong interest in IT (I even learned programming language independently during undergraduate study), but in the nearest future we are planning to extend our company to production and logistics. I like entrepreneurship because I am dealing with a startup and planning to deal with ventures in the future (as we add production and logistics branches to our company).
After MBA I am going to work in the USA to make an international experience, to learn practices in top companies of the world. I don’t know exactly where I want to work because I don’t know what type of MBA program I am going to study. After having several years of experience, I will go back to Uzbekistan and work in my company (if everything will be OK with our company). I am planning to expand and develop our company to a national-scale giant.
My dream school is Harvard. But I think I have too little Work Experience to get to HBS. I would be totally satisfied to be admitted to Stanford too. Recently I was very interested in MIT too, because it is so popular for its technology leadership (although Stanford is popular for this too).
I am going to apply to 5 schools: 3 top schools like (Stanford, Yale, Stern…), 1 second tier school (like Broad, Simon, …), 1 lower rank school for the worst case. I don’t know narrow range of schools I want to apply because I haven’t chosen the type of MBA I’m going to pursue.
What type of recommendation I need?
- Have I opportunity to get admitted to HBS? Should I try, is it worth effort and money?
- Have I opportunity to get admitted to Stanford? Should I try, is it worth effort and money?
- What are the top MANAGEMENT schools I have a CHANCE to be ADMITTED?
- What are the top IT schools I have a CHANCE to be ADMITTED?
- What are the top ENTREPRENEURSHIP schools I have a CHANCE to be ADMITTED?
- What are the middle-rank schools that I am more likely to be admitted?
- What are the low-rank schools that I have a high chance to be admitted?
I thank and appreciate any assistance.
From the information you provide, it sounds like a general management program would be best suited to your needs. Your work experience is a little thin; you might consider applying next fall for R1 at your dream schools of Harvard and Stanford and strengthening your leadership skills as you do have a chance at those schools. Have you considered MIT Sloan and Chicago Booth? Both would fit your needs and goals. Another top rank school to consider would be Berkeley Haas.
Middle-rank schools to consider include CMU Tepper and UT-Austin.
