Are parents the best teachers?
People are molded by two different factors during their lifetime; family and the society that they live in. Children in most cases have close contact with their parents from the very first moment they are born. Their parents spend a great deal of time with them. So, it is undeniable the importance of parental influence in intellectual, behavioral and social development of the child. They can be the kindest, most caring and most influential people the child can have. I strongly believe that parents are the best teachers. This is because of their ultimate commitment to the child. In the following paragraphs, I will try to explain some of the most prominent reasons to support my viewpoint.
First and the foremost, almost for sure, parents are the best teachers in the initial years of our life which actually corresponds to the parents' role in nature. Having so much patience, they teach us rudimentary skills such as how to walk, to speak and to eat. Therefore, they prepare us to reach the real world little by little. They have a sort of instinct to sacrifice part of themselves for the betterment of the child.
In addition, parents know that throughout life, there possibly would be tough times their child would be faced with. So, I believe that they try to teach the child valuable lessons of life or how to live his or her own life. They have a considerable amount of experience and their commitment to their child obliges them to transmit what life has taught them year after year. So, during the second stage of the child development, adolescence, they start to modularize and shape the child's personality. Of course, we cannot cast doubt on the fact that school teachers have a significant role in teaching us. But what we learn from a school teacher in the classroom is definitely different from that of our parents. A school teacher is a professional who merely teaches us variety aspects of science such as biology, chemistry, physics, and literature. While we know that our parents are not necessarily as professional and well-educated as our teachers, yet we still need to learn so much from them. We need to learn how to become a morally good person, how to be strong enough to overcome any possible encumbrance in our life and how to be a venerable citizen.
On the other hand, we need to be cognizant of the fact that sometimes parents may not be impartial and free of bias by their love towards us. Actually, they tend to curry their child's favor. In fact, they do their best to set any convenience as well as to help us see the world the way they do and that is why we may be stymied from maturation. In any case, parents only present one viewpoint of the world while good teaching should be based on diverse attitudes. Thus, when we go to school and have a variety of teachers, then we learn much more and perceive different points of view of a specific issue.
To sum up and putting everything in a nutshell, I should state that parents are the best teachers because of their commitment to us, the experience they have and needless to say, the caring feeling towards us.
