Please evaluate my humble profile [#permalink] New post 12 Mar 2012, 05:26
Dear Experts,

I hope you are having a great day! I took my GMAT 1 week back and scored a 690.
Please advise me, based on my GMAT score and profile, on the following;

Which schools should I be targeting? I prefer North American schools but please advise other options too.
What are the areas that i should work on further?
Financial assistance/Scholarships is a must for me. Please advise on this too.

About myself: Bangladeshi Male /31 years / Around 80 months’ industry experience

GMAT: 690 (Quant: 49, verbal 35, AWA yet to receive. TOEFL-have not appeared yet.

GPA/school: I hold a first class degree in Bachelor of Science (Computer Science & Engineering) from the University of Dhaka. It is the top university of the country. But I’m not sure how this result (first class 44th position in a pool of 75 students) translates to the GPA.

Target schools: Please advise.

WE-2: Grameenphone IT (Largest IT Company of Bangladesh)

Duration: 2 years, last position was Project Manager (Specialist), Commercial division. Worked in different technology projects both at home and abroad. In one of the projects there was a situation where the project was in dire straits and the Fortune 500 vendor failed to deliver. It was a prestige issue to the company and I stepped in (sounds familiar? :)) and took the challenge. It's was an extremely tough situation as my reputation, job and the company reputation hinged on the project. The project came out successful, with exact deliverables and perfect timing.

Expert's post
Dear kingme,
First of all your profile looks good. We see a lot of candidates who have profiles that are very similar, and you have some very nice items, like being a musician on national TV. That having been said, your age and tech background isn't likely to help you, so it's something you will need to work around. The schools you have on your list: NYU, Darden, Oxford, etc. you should all be able to apply, but you are not really a sure bet, and getting a scholarship is even less sure. The logic behind scholarships is basically that the schools who REALLY want you will offer you money, so of course you need to have a compelling story, but it also helps if you apply to schools that would be EASIER for you to get in. So if you get into NYU, they may not offer you much money, but if you get into a school that has a lower ranking and lower average GMAT then you might get an offer. Which schools? There are soooo many. First have a look at schools in which your GMAT is HIGHER than the average, and see which of those programs appeal to you. Those are the places more likely to free up some money to get you in.
