Dear Experts,

I hope you are having a great day! I took my GMAT 1 week back and scored a 690.
Please advise me, based on my GMAT score and profile, on the following;

Which schools should I be targeting? I prefer North American schools but please advise other options too.
What are the areas that i should work on further?
Financial assistance/Scholarships is a must for me. Please advise on this too.

About myself: Bangladeshi Male /31 years / Around 80 months’ industry experience

GMAT: 690 (Quant: 49, verbal 35, AWA yet to receive. TOEFL-have not appeared yet.

GPA/school: I hold a first class degree in Bachelor of Science (Computer Science & Engineering) from the University of Dhaka. It is the top university of the country. But I’m not sure how this result (first class 44th position in a pool of 75 students) translates to the GPA.

Target schools: Please advise.

WE-2: Grameenphone IT (Largest IT Company of Bangladesh)

Duration: 2 years, last position was Project Manager (Specialist), Commercial division. Worked in different technology projects both at home and abroad. In one of the projects there was a situation where the project was in dire straits and the Fortune 500 vendor failed to deliver. It was a prestige issue to the company and I stepped in (sounds familiar? :)) and took the challenge. It's was an extremely tough situation as my reputation, job and the company reputation hinged on the project. The project came out successful, with exact deliverables and perfect timing.

Hi kingme,

What are your goals post-graduation and do you have a preference in location?

You should not underestimate the importance of where you attend school. As an example, if you know you would like to pursue a career in finance, then attending school in New York or in the North East would be a good idea because the schools you attend would have strong networks on Wall Street.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team

Dear StacyBlackman,

Thank you for your kind reply. I'm not really fixated on the post MBA career yet. I know it's indispensable and a must for MBA application and that's why i need your suggestions. I would like to go for a Finance major MBA as i think it would make my profile a complete one but my career progression so far suggests general management, preferably in a technology company. Can you help me to put these into context?

I'm looking forward to joining a school in North america or Europe.

I would really appreciate if you can answer to some specific questions such as;

Is my Age going to be a big factor?
To which school my profile suits?
Availability of Tuition remissions.
Please advise on Finance major MBA and General Management MBA, which would target technology companies.

Please advise me in which schools i stand a strong chance.

Thank you very much.

Hi kingme,

Do not be overly concerned about your age. Here is a case study of an older candidate who was accepted into Harvard Business School: http://www.stacyblackman.com/2011/05/12 ... applicant/

For which area you should pursue, I recommend you pursue a concentration you are passionate about. Business school provides a great opportunity to experience news industries and opportunities. You shouldn't just look to create a "complete profile".

Cheers,
