Hi,

I am planning to apply to Full Time MBA for Fall 2014, mainly Canada and US.

My Profile:

Indian Male IT Profile
B.Tech in Computer Engineering
Graduation GPA - 7.788/10 (70.09%)
Work Exp: 3 yrs in IT by July 2014
GMAT: 640 (Q 50 V 27) IR 8
Have CWG 2010 volunteer experience
Post MBA Goal: To work in investment banking or as financial adviser.

I prefer to study in Canada and US. I would prefer to work for at least 4-5 years in that country after doing my MBA and may be think to settle there permanently.

I have shortlisted some schools:-

1. University of British Columbia: Sauder (Can apply only in R3 as of now, I can wait if I may have good chances to get admission in R1 Fall 2015)
2. University of Alberta
3. University of Calgary
4. Simon Fraser University
5. University of Victoria
6. Mays Business School, Texas

What are my chances of getting into the above B schools.
Moreover, please advise if I should go for 1 year MBA or 2 year MBA.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. Keeping in mind that there are a large number of Indian IT/engineering applicants, it is good to think about ways that you can differentiate yourself from the crowd. That said, the schools you mentioned are likely reasonable ones to target with your profile and GMAT score. Keep in mind schools will look in more depth at your work experience, profile, community involvement, other activities, etc. They look for leadership and management experience and potential. Your essays will play a large role in how you showcase who you are and what you'll bring to the program, as well as why you've chosen the MBA and the rationale for your goals.

You mentioned fall 2014... it is getting late for that so don't underestimate the time and effort required to put together a strong application. As for 1 year vs 2 year, there are a number of things to consider, including financial investment, time out of the work place, how certain you are about your goals, need for an internship, need for additional coursework, etc. Let us know what further q's you have and good luck!

Hi,

I have applied to Schulich for Round 2 and awaiting decision.
I did more research and cancelled out schools 2,3 and 5 since they lack international exposure.
