Hi,
I am a 31 year old male physician who just finished residency. Looking to start B-school in 2007 and do healthcare consulting or healthcare administration. Undergrad GPA 3.4 from small liberal arts college. GMAT: 710, 94% (Q45, 78%/V42, 96%). Interested in Wharton, Kellogg, Harvard, Duke, Berkeley. Have 5 years of work experience including 3 years of residency and 2 years as a medical technician before med school.
I hope my GMAT is competitive but worried about lower quantitative. Also worried that I don't have any business experience. What are my chances? Any suggestions for other schools with good healthcare programs? Thank you so much.
baldo,
My apologies for the delay in responding; I've been traveling and have had limited Internet access. As far as your GMAT, your quantitative is close enough to the 80th percentile that it should not cause them to question your quantitative skills. You will need to portray your medical experiences as having given you many leadership opportunities as well as opportunities to show your versatile management skills--i.e., show them that medical training isn't only about medicine and science but about leadership, people skills, and the kinds of administrative and project management skills that management skills that B-schools are interested in. If you do have any exposure to cost- or budget-related issues then certainly discuss that as well. Regarding B-schools with strong healthcare programs, you've identified the strongest ones in your list.
Good luck!
