Please evaluate my profile. I am applying in R2.
Nationality/Gender/Age: Indian/Male/27
1) Brief description of your full-time work experience. What do you do?
Total of 4 years. 2 years in Research and Consulting, clients were Global and Fortune 500. Promoted from an Analyst to a Lead role in a year, where I managed a team of 5 analysts and led projects. I then moved into a different role, 2 years as a Software Engg working in a US based MNC)
2) Your GMAT.
GMAT - 750 (Q 50, V 41, IR 8, AWA 4.5)
3) College info: The name of the college, your GPA or grade average, your major, year of graduation. For any graduate degrees, please provide the same info. If you grades are low, please indicate if there were extenuating circumstances.
GPA - 6.2/10. Graduated from IIT Madras in 2009. It was a dual degree in Electrical Engg, which is Masters and Bachelors together in a 5 year program. I think this GPA would translate to about 2.4 or 2.5 on 4 scale. There's no upward or downward trend in my grades. My grades throughout were bad, quant or non quant courses
4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
Nothing major, was a member of the institute football team and hostel team and won a few medals. Have been participating in some community service activities as part of our company's CSR projects.
5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.
None
6) Your target programs. Please note that my experience is with the top MBA programs (FT, PT, EMBA, Sloan Fellows) around the world. If the programs you are targeting are not listed here, I may not respond due to lack of time.
Do you guys think I should even bother applying to the top 10 univs with such low GPA?
I am counting out HBS, Stan, Booth, Kellogg, Wharton, etc. I know Duke and Ross are also top 10, but do I atleast have an outside chance of getting into these two schools.
The schools I have shortlisted for my apps so far are:
Duke, Ross, Tepper, Darden, UCLA, Cornell, Stern, Tuck and McCombs. I plan to apply to about 5-7 of these.
7) When you plan to apply? Please specify round and application cycle, for example R1 2013-14 or R3 2012-13.
R2 2013-14
8) Your post-MBA goal. - Honestly, I am not too sure right now.
But, my work ex is varied having worked in Consulting Industry catering to Pharma and FMCG clients and then moving into a Software Engg role in my current profile. I would like to leverage this diversified experience and put forward something which would be convincing to the adcoms. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
