Hello Paul,

Would really appreciate you going through my profile.. Thanks

Basics:

Age:23
Gender: Male
Nationality: Indian
Degree: Bachelor in Engineering(Computers)
GMAT: 710(Q49, V38)
GPA: Decent nothing special

Work Experience:

Period: 2 years when I start applying
Concentration: Marketing, Sales, Strategic Planning, Project Management
Profile: Working for a small size IT solutions provider developing its own s/w, h/w based end to end solutions. Basically started out with some hardcore B2B sales activities including following the entire sales process. After gaining some experience, now leading a team of sales executives and Service engineers. Was the first employee in the company to geta double promotion and become a Deputy Manager at the young age of 23. Apart from the Sales work, carried out Technical and commercial feasibility documents for RFQ/RFP/Tenders.

Lately have branched out to more of a consulting role in the organization, working with the s/w team to carry out new improvements in all the s/w packages. This is based on innovation and market research and subsequent new releases have been carried out which were greatly appreciated by our clients.

A new dimension for the work ex. has come in recently with project management experience. Handling 2 projects over 2 different cities. Dealing with Service Level Agreements, meeting time lines, Business Continuity and Disaster Recover, Coordinating with all the teams involved, Weekly progress reports through Con Calls..

Have also formulated the IT security polices for the company as a requirement for one of our clients.. and post formulation was appointed as the SPOC from our organization to help carry out a complete external security audit..

This is just a brief on my varied work experience, which I feel is my strong point. Specially when u consider that all this was done in about a year and a half :)

Only concern is that 2 yrs of work ex might not be enough so its my strongest and weakest point :)

ECS:

-Lots of experience gained as a part of the organization committee for various events during college
- Was in charge of organizing the entire Sports Meet for the college 3 out of 4 years(Have a certificate of Appreciation from the college as well)
- School and College Basketball captain
- Part of the Cricket Team in College
- Part of a Special Focus group for Online Management game. The group helps in innovation and development for the game while also looking at increasing revenue and newer markets..
- Carried out complete end to end consulting for a Restaurant in our Society.. helped making it more profitable.. cutting costs.. new methods of adding footfall and avg. bill per table.
- Love Simulation and Business Tycoon type games(Dont know how relevant this is??)

Community Service:
-Organized and took part in an event to help an Old Age Home, including spending time with the people.. carrying out a total face lift for the building and backyard.
-Was part of a Team that helped in slum development and also educated a few of the underprivileged kids..

Why MBA? :

Have a whole list of reasons.. want to get into strategic management and management consulting as it excites me and have relevant work ex.

Question:

Basically I feel I have a decent profile that I have managed to setup but dont know if there is anything exceptional there for the M7 or event he Top 10-15 just wanted to know what I could do to better serve the Process.. Some of my safe colleges include :

-Georgia Tech
-Ohio State
-Michigan State

Looking at colleges like:
-CMU
-Darden
-Hass
-UNC
-Purdue
-Ann Arbor(Ross)

Do you think I have a good chance at the above unis.. also should I go higher, personally any scholarship would be a very important criteria for me!!

Very confused all help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Uday

Uday,

You have accomplished quite a lot in a year and a half. Your age will still be a bit of handicap for you as will your demographic, which is quite well represented among B-school applicants. Also, your post-college extracurriculars/volunteer involvement seems average. However, I think your school selection seems well-considered and realistic. You should have no trouble getting into your safety schools. UNC, Purdue, and CMU look doable. Darden and Michigan are probably good "reach" schools for you. Haas may be the toughest nut for you--not sure it's realistic.

Hope this helps,
