Please evaluate schools... [#permalink] New post 17 Oct 2010, 09:47
Hi,

Following is my profile.
GMAT: 660 (Q48, V33, AWA5.5)
3+ yr work ex (counting till Aug'11) in IT companies (Accenture and Servigistics). Working in the field on Supply chain management for the past 1 yr with direct interaction with clients.
Lot of experience in event management activities, both in college and corporate.

Academic: Always been consistent. 80% throughout school and engineering (B.tech in comp science)

Following are the universities i am considering. My main focus is MBA in consulting, operations, SCM, strategy.
I have shortlisted the following schools

---Applying for sure---
Said Business school (Oxford)
McCombs school of business (Texas)
Kelley School of business (Indiana)
UNC Kenan Flager (UNC)
Fisher (Ohio)

---Doubtful---
Tepper Business school (CMU)
Johnson Business School (Cornell)
Judge Business School (Cambridge)
IESE (Spain)
Fuqua School of Business (Duke)
Ross School of Business (Michigan)

Can you please tell me what my chances are with this list? Am i playing too safe?
Also, i feel that a dream school is somewhat missing from the list. It would be great if you could suggest to me a school of the likes of Harvard, Booth, Wharton, etc where i at least have a 20% chance of selection.

Many Thanks!!

Your school lists looks reasonable however your GMAT score is only one component of the equation. What is your GPA? Were your promoted or given increasing levels of responsibility at work? What are your future goals? There are many factors that play into you competitiveness. Also, could one of the schools on your 2nd list be a dream school?

I have done my postgraduation from india, with 77%, which translates to roughly above GPA 3.5
The responsibilities at my current job have always been tremenduous. I was even sent for an onsite client and warehouse visit to Amsterdam with 4 months of joining my current company- Servigistics.
And dream school.. i am really having a tough time deciding on which ones to apply to, and even how many to apply to.
Currently i am sure only about these for round 1- Said Business school (Oxford), McCombs school of business (Texas), Kelley School of business (Indiana), UNC Kenan Flager (UNC)

Any suggestions would really help me a lot.
Kind Regards,
Vasudha

Your short list looks good. Keep in mind that b-school applications require a large time commitment so be careful about adding too many schools to your list. I would recommend that you visit your top two choices if possible in order to network and get a better feel for the program. After all, you wouldn't buy a $60,000 car without at least test driving it.

As far as dream schools, Duke may be an option. It has a strong international focus, values leadership/team experience, and places many students in consulting.
