You have what I would call a golden profile. Being African American is frankly a huge asset in the b-school admissions process, as only about 3-4% of applications come from African Americans. What this means is, schools are starved for the diversity of this very important group and what their prospective brings to the table. Aside from that, your profile is very strong as well, with a Law degree (not sure why anyone told you lawyers don't do well in the process---I don't find that to be true, particularly when they have banking experience like you do in representing clients). Your GMAT is very strong and your post MBA vision is clear and compelling, while also leveraging your past experience. In short, you should be able to write your own ticket to b-school if you have a very carefully crafted application that is well put together and compelling.
