I wrote Gmat(gmat prep) today and score 630(Q 40 and V 36).
When i reviewed the exam for incorrect answers i found out that i was doing well in PS but DS had mistakes, that too while reviewing,i read the question first and understood what the answer must have been. That means i know the answer but while writing i have made mistakes .
For example i came across a question Each person in a certain group supports only one of two candidates R and T. Of the people in the group, 45 percent support Candidate R and the rest support Candidate T. How many people in the group are in favor of a flat tax ?
(1) Of the people in the group who support Candidate R, 58 percent are in favor of flat tax
(2) Of the people in the group who support Candidate T, 22 are in favor of a flat tax.
while doing test i had written C as my answer, but when i read question slowly again i answered it was E and was the rite choice.
Like this i had made mistake and i was able to complete quants 10 mins ahead of time.
Coming to verbal....
I seriously have to improve a lot
My problem was in Sentence correction and RC i got 4 wrongs ( the toughest once -long passage).
Sentence correction had the highest questions wrong.
Critical Reasoning of all i got 2 wrongs, 1 in weakening and 1 in assumption.
I also analyzed what is wrong with me.My concentration was at the peak in the start while doing quants and till i reached 21 question in verbal, but later it started to fall all of a sudden.I was able to finish quants in time but verbal had to rush up towards end(i.e i had 10 question left and 8 min),though most of the answer in the last were correct (around 8), i felt bad for this approach. If i had time from first or concentrated more i would have done even better in verbal
Note : i wrote with Awa though it was not score in the test.
Yes i took GMatprep1 which had completely different questions in the pool, infact i downloaded it again and no such question were repeating.Last time wen i prepared i did take Gmatprep but i didnt solve all the questions from the pool, instead took one test and left...
Yeah sure as you say...
I wrote a paper base test today ..it was OG paper based test,i downloaded and got around 700..but since its paper based never mind ,just not to waste time i did..
I am lacking in Reading comprehension a lot.How to do it well and get better score in verbal.. wat are important startegies for Rc..?? Wat is the maximum time by which i must complete a passage...cos when i viewed i take almost 15 mins to complete one Rc passage on a whole, its a bit too long way to go, and cos of this i am not able to finish verbal in time.
You cannot, simply, CANNOT take 15 minutes for an RC passage - that will kill you.
You should keep 2 minutes maximum for reading the 3 shorter RCs and 2.5-3 minutes maximum for reading the longer RC.
You should complete the 3-question RCs (reading and answering) in 6-7 minutes and the longer RC in 9 minutes. If you spend more time than that, you will destroy your other sections and get a bad verbal score.
You have to read faster and read actively - jotting down points if you need to. Also, you cannot take a lot of time in answering one question - if you are confused or not sure after a minute, guess and move on.
Last Wednesday i wrote a full length test from platinum GMAT. I got the mark range from 640-700 and the verbal percentile raised mean while i was able to finish verbal 10 mins ahead of my time. i got 4 wrongs in verbal of which 2 were SC and 1CR and 1 RC.In quantitative i had problem cos the page delayed loading question. i had to refresh everytime i go to next questions. this took almost 15mins from my regular time, still i was able to finish though my expected result was 80-85 percentile in quans.I felt little satisfied. I am going to try with knewton next and only one week left i think i must stop exams by friday and revise for next week
I have given almost 4 GMAT Prep exams and each was around 650 -680....(gave during weekends)
But the last one which i gave today, after reinstalling the GMAT Prep again i got only 420..i was surprised y the result...Damn wat is happening al of a sudden..after my first test of real GMAT i have improved to some extent and my target gmat score is not as high as other expect 730 or 750...just in the range where i stand now..
when i reviewed i found out that even easy questions that i know well i have made mistake.. wats wrong??
Santanu, I think you need to be a little more blunt to guide him/her to the right path.
@ Vaishnav(i) :
As I see you do not have much time left for the real test, unless you are ready to reschedule. My advice to you would be get a little more realistic and plan accordingly. Free tests on Knewton, Veritas etc. are relatively easy when compared to the real thing. Have you tried MGMAT or Kaplan ? Target a realistic score for yourself. Now, if you have difficulty managing time, pick questions on which you shall 'only' guess. That gives you, in other words, bonus time to get the questions you know well, correct. A spread of guess-es across the whole test, and completing the test with less errors will easily lead you ashore. All the best. _________________
i have been reloading GMATprep again and again.it does not have any repeated questions believe me...i uninstalled and reinstalled again today and wrote a test of which nothing was repeated. But anyways i don have any fear, cos as you said in the last moment if i start to fear my ability to do well will go down,i have been preparing for past 4 months for GMAT on the whole so i should be able to succeed ...Thanks for your Concern. Thanks a lot santanu. Your timely help really paid back a new confidence to me.I appreciate your help. Thanks once again.
I have given kudos for you too...happy!! I am not taking any full length exams anymore, i will see to that i remain calm and revise all my notes so far,to overcome my mistakes. Thanks for your concern.Appreciate your help Vailad.Thank you
