Please help in shortlisting colleges based on my profile [#permalink] New post 29 Nov 2008, 08:40
Hi,

Here's my profile in brief:

Indian/Male/26 yrs

B.Tech in IT - average percentage :74%

Almost 5 years of work experience, started as a Software Engineer. Last 3 years in one of the largest product based s/w companies with an international team. Have earned 2 promotions so far.

Good extracurriculars!

GMAT score: 760 - Q50, V44, AWA 4.5

My aim is get into management consulting. Given my IT background, I have already decided on applying to MIT Sloan.

I am looking at applying to schools with a good general management record and I have shortlisted the following five but given that I only have a month left, I think I should only apply to three more so that I can submit quality applications and improve my chances of getting an admit. So please help me choose 3 from these 5:

Kellogg
Ross(Michigan)
Tuck - Should I even bother applying now in round 3?
Fuqua(Duke)
Goizueta(Emory) - I included this in the list becasue I was told that its generous with scholorships.

Thanks in advance!

Prestigious management consulting firms only recruit in limited # of programs.

kellogg, Ross and Tuck probably qualify for these programs.

Fuqua and Emory are a stretch since mgt firms are not top employers they attract. (unless you include Big 4 consulting in that list)

Round 3 - Thats a no no for internationals from what I've heard. Its because of Visa issues.

As for Management consulting, Duke Fuqua does send individuals to M/B/B, it is one of their top employers. However, it is still a small amount of people. But the location options are limited from what I've heard. Ross has good placements in consulting in general. Maybe look at Darden also.

Best way to find schools: look through the employment reports of schools you might be competitive at to see if the companies you'd want to work for come to visit.
