please help me [#permalink] New post 26 Nov 2012, 05:37
hi everyone
i am quite new to this forum and joined it recently. i have a few questions to the experts. i am a dentist based in india and have done my masters in dentistry about 3 yrs back. i started preparing for GMAT in june 2012, and have written it twice already. first was on sep 15 and my score was 640. then after two months of sheer hard work, i wrote it again n scored a dismal 650 today. i am very disappointed and want to know whether i stand any chance with this score or should i prepare for GMAT once more. please do send in your reviews. also what score would b ideal for a person like me who is from a diverse background and i want to get in to a great b school like hbs or lbs.
looking forward to a reply from your end

I think that 650 is a good score for someone who does not come from such a common background as Computers/IT/Engineering. In my opinion, you should apply.

Welcome to GMAT Club.
I think you may want to ask this to the admissions consultants. I am moving this post to the proper forum.
Best Regards,
BB

Manish,
A 650 score combined with your distinctive background would make you competitive at a number of decent programs, for example, Emory, Washington (Foster), Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Penn State, Michigan State, SMU Cox etc. If you are aiming for Top 20 schools you will need to raise the score your Quant and Verbal scores are above the 80th percentile. Keep in mind that while your dentistry background will help you stand out from other Indian applicants, schools need to limit the percentage of applicants from any one country they admit, and the Indian applicant pool is among the most 'oversubscribed'...

650 is not dismal at all. No, it's not enough for you to get into Harvard. But they are all snobs anyway! :)
Kidding of course, we are nice folks, at the end...
But what I mean is that you gotta choose your schools in function of your personal goals. Why do you want an MBA? What would you like to do with it? In the short term? In the long term? What type of school/education are you looking for? What other interesting things do you have in your background?

You may find that there are some excellent options open to you.
