Please help me select b-schools to apply this year. [#permalink] New post 18 Sep 2011, 04:10
Hello,
I gave GMAT last month and scored a decent 730(51/38) with 4.0 in AWA. Here is my profile in short:
22 year Indian male. Am a computer engineering graduate (from a very renowned college in India, with a 70% aggregate) working as a software developer in a very well known MNC. I have decent projects from my college time, have a good coding experience and I think I can manage a couple of recommendations, one from my current program manager and another from a college professor of mine.
The main issue that I see with applying for an MBA for batches starting in 2012 is that I do not have a very big work-experience. I have been working from 31st august, 2010- that was about 1 year ago. Which are the top-25 b-schools where I should apply where I have a decent chance of getting in? I really need help on this as application deadlines are nearing very soon.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You are in a challenging spot because your application pool is so large. You will be stacked up against plenty of other applicants with similar paper qualifications, but with 5x the WE. You will need to think about how you are still competitive and can standout against someone with a similar background yet more WE. The key to this will be in your story an dhow you cast your vision. One mistake other applicants have made in the past is to simply list attributes about themselves vs. telling anectodtes. Make your application come alive by painting with color. As far as school selection goes, you may need to target top 20 instead of top 10 despite your good GMAT score. Assuming you are dedicated to going back in 2012, you could use this strategy to leverage your GMAT for schools that are not quite as competitive and would benefit from more high-GMAT applicants to boost their average. let us know if we can help.

Not sure culturally where you would best fit in without a full evaluation, but take a look at Olin, Keenan Flagler, UT Austin, USC Marshall and Emory.
