Modifiers are usually set off by a comma except when using a "that" clause. However, I doubt whether the GMAT would make the absence of a comma the only deciding factor between two answer choices. An expert opinion would help on that regard.

Nice question guys, but this is not the correct thread.
Anyways, the topic you raised is ,IMO, based on conciseness.
When we have one noun noun modified by a prepositional phrase, we can turn the phrase into a Noun-Adjective and put it in front of the first noun, thus shortening the whole expression. This is most done when the preposition is of.
Therefore "smoking habit" is much better than "the habit of smoking".

Why the sentence is not correct without the commas and as explained in GMAT club tests how it would be by any chance a RUN ON => IC,IC

Scientists - Are reporting - SV Pair

Brain located ( located modifies brain even without commas, isn't it?)

that injury - introduces a dependent clause.

Injury - can instantly - SV Pair

Plz Advice !!!
