Please help to evaluate my profile [#permalink]

Dear,
Please help to evaluate my profile. Thanks indeed.
1) Brief description of your full-time work experience. What do you do? I have 1 year working in Environmental field (CDM-Clean Development Mechanism, to be specific). Then, I found that I had a great passion in Business and I decided to switch to business. I worked in the Sales Dept of P&G Vietnam as a Section manager. After 1 year, I moved to a newly start-up company, which was founded by the former Sales Director of P&G. I have worked in this company til now and in charge of many responsibilities (Sales, Trade Marketing and Capability). Since this is a newly setup company, I have chances to work in many different fields on certain leadership level and work directly with the chairman. 2) Your GMAT: 730 3) College info: The name of the college, your GPA or grade average, your major, year of graduation. For any graduate degrees, please provide the same info. If you grades are low, please indicate if there were extenuating circumstances. I graduated from Chemical engineering Dept of Hanoi University of Technology (class 2009), one of the best engineering college of Vietnam with rank 1 in the Department and top 10 of the University. My GPA was 8.5/10. Given the notoriously strict grading of the University, this was a very high and competitive GPA. During my undergraduate time, I got many national awards in Chemistry contest, some famous scholarships from companies and Dean's award for excellent achievements. 4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience. I have taken part in many social activities, was the co-founder of an environmental volunteering group. 5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.: No, it's irrelevant to my area 6) Your target programs. Tuck, Darden, McCombs, Kelly, Booth, Duke 7) When you plan to apply? Please specify round and application cycle, for example R1 2013-14 or R3 2012-13: Round 1-2 2013-2014 7) Your post-MBA goal: I expect to get a job in Management Consulting after graduation.

You have a competitive profile for your target programs. It's not entirely clear to me how long you have been in your current position, but I'm going to guess 6 months to a year, which means that you will have 3.5-4 years of work experience when you matriculate, and it sounds like good work experience. You are applying appropriately, I would prefer to see you substitute another higher ranked program for Kelly or McCombs, unless there is something specific at these two schools that appeals to you. You may also want to consider Ross and Johnson. If you want to stretch, look into HBS, MIT Sloan, or Stanford. Best, Linda

Dear Linda,
Thanks for your response.
Could you help to identify some of my strengths and weaknesses?
Given the weaknesses of my profile, I think they are:
1. Low TOEFL: I got 102 2 years ago and I don't think I can got higher than 105-106
2. Job Changes: I have worked for 3 companies within 3 years and I'm a job switcher. I changed from engineering to business, which is a change in both industry and company.
3. Social activities: Because I need to travel a lot, I haven't taken part much in social activities after graduation. I dont know whether this might be a minus point?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks a lot in advance. Strengths: Academic stats (grades and test scores). Work experience is both corporate and start-up and includes managerial experience. It seems like you can also show contribution and impact. Country of origin: Vietnam -- there aren't a lot of Vietnamese applying to bschool, although the numbers are increasing. Weaknesses: You have changed jobs 3 times in 3 years as you point out. However, if you stay with your current employer, you will be able to show a little more consistency in at least your last job. Lack of recent community service. It is a weakness, but unlikely to be a deal-breaker. Best, Linda Abraham

Dear Linda,
Thanks for your reply.
2 more questions of mine:
1. I am worrying that my changes in both field and industry might be a minus point to my profile since I have changed from Sales to a cross-funtional field (where I am working in Sales, Trade and Capability) and from Consumer Goods (at P&G) to Pharmaceutical Cosmetics (my current company).
As I mentioned above, since this is a startup company and is facing a lot of difficulties under the impacts of crisis, a person, especially one being considered to be the future leader of the company like I, needs to work in various fields. This might lead to the fact that I cannot have any deep understanding of any field. Given my long term after Biz-school is to get into Consulting, should this a disadvantage?
2. I have limited my schools to: top choices (Tuck, Fuqua, Darden, Ross) and safe choices (Carlson, Vanderbilt, Owen). My first choice is still Tuck and Fuqua, which are the schools I find myself best fit. Could you help to introduce some services of yours that I can consult? I am looking for admission consulting companies to work with since I am planning to apply in Early Decision and Round 1.
Thanks.
