Hi,

I'd like to have an evaluation of my profile.
Please not that I am planning to apply in R1 next year.

French woman 29y old
GMAT: 680 ( 1 hour ago I am a bit disappointed by the Q score- 41 as I was consistently scoring higher but my V score 41 is the best I have ever had- might retake later)
Msc in Finance (2007) and Bachelor in Business, both with honours (don't know how it translates into a GPA but I had above 12/20 every semester)
I have been working as a junior trader ( started in middle office, and got more responsabilities from the trading desk, one of my recommendation will be from a Trader) for 1.5 y in Paris and then as a
sales with a large US Bank in Switzerland (2years).
I hold 3 FSA exams in Finance and am registered for CFA Level 1 in June.
Regarding my hobbies, I practice Israeli Martial combat and tango and have practiced horseback riding for years (I also volunteered as a tutor for summer camps when I was younger).

My main objective would be to use a MBA to move from my sales job to a portfolio management role (hence the CFA).
I am targetting : LBS, Insead, Stern and Columbia.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

I think your work experience is pretty strong! I'd say extracurriculars are good but seem more like hobbies than actual leadership roles in organized activities/community organizations (but I think this is okay, given that you work banking hours). I would say a GMAT retake would be a good thing to go for - if you can get over the 700 hump it will greatly increase your chances at the programs you listed.

If you do find yourself with any free time, any community organizations/nonprofits that you can get involved with in a serious way would be a good thing.

Best of luck,
Mili

Hi Mili,

Thanks for your answer!
Regarding the volunteering/extracurricular activities, I was thinking about starting something to strenghten my profile but isn't it too late?
I mean, I do have several months before applying, but wouldn't it look fake if I coincidently start volunteering 6 months before applying to a MBA?
That doesn't look like a genuine interest to me, and I am wondering what the adcoms would think.

Great question. You're right that it can look very disingenuous this late in the game. However, it's less about the quantity (or length of time you do something) than it is about the quality. So, the idea would be to do something whereby you can make a big impact on the organization within the timeframe that you have. In order for you to want to put in that kind of time/energy, it'll have to be something you are really passionate about. If you're really passionate about it, it's not disingenuous :)

Best,
Mili
