Please suggest universities based on profile. [#permalink] New post 10 May 2011, 08:48
Hi,

I am passively planning for a career switch. I have a graduate degree in Computer sciences which I pursued immediately after under graduate studies. Based on the information given below, what are the colleges that I can realistically get into? I am looking at schools in North America and Europe.

GMAT: 700, Quant: 49, Verbal: 36, AWA: 5
Work Exp: 3.6+ yrs in Research and development in a reputed Software consultancy company in India
Graduate Degree: Computer Sciences from a reputed University in India, 8.9 GPA (max 10) Not sure how this would affect my candidacy.
Undergraduate Degree: Electronics and Communication, 74%, converts to approx 2.5 GPA
Extra curriculars: None :(
Goals: haven't been able to decide any. current career progress is linear though I have been promoted recently.
Gender: Male
Nationality: Indian
Age: 26

If there are any good universities that I can realisiticaly get into, I'd actively prepare for admissions :)

Thanks.

Hi varghya:

It is hard for me to point you in the right direction because I have very little insight into what your actual career goals are. Nonetheless, I will try.

To be honest, you do not have a very competitive profile for the top 15 schools. You come from an ultra competitive demographic and your GMAT score will exclude you from a probable admit at a top 15 school. Frankly, I would suggest looking at schools in the United States that are between 15 and 25, and that espouse an international emphasis.

When an admissions committee looks at your profile, they are going to assume that you are smart and technically savvy. However, what you really need to bring to the table is an additional dimension to highlight store personality. Otherwise you will get lost in the shuffle of other Indian, computer science background candidates. The fact that you have no extracurricular activities worries me. It will be hard to distinguish you. So again, please look at schools in the 15 to 25 range.

Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti
