question 1 : a cylinder with radius 5 inches placed upright in rectangular box of 8*10*12.what is the maximum possible volume of cylinder??/
question 2:if a, b , c are the roots of quadratic equations ,where c is common root.find the value of (X-a/X-b)??

Good luck tomorrow.
(not related to this question directly) - given two sizes to choose from - a cylinder will have more volume if the bigger number is it's radius and not his height. (surface of the base is squared and height it not).
now - about question number 1 - few steps to follow -
radius 5 means that the diagonal is 10. therefore - the base can be ONLY the face with the 10*12 dimension.
all the other positions will not be able to hold a circle with radios of 5.
so - the height is 8.
(remember - cylinder's volume = the base's surface*height).
base surface - Pie*r^2 = Pie * 25
Height is 8
so the full answer would be - 8*25*pie = 200*pie.
Question number 2 is not clear to me and it will be helpful if you post the answers.
