Points M(-5,2) and N(5,8) lie on the xy - plane. What is the midpoint of line segment MN?

I do not have the exact answers of the question but I know the OA.

So:

A. (5,0)
B. (0,5)
C. (0, (136^(1/2))/2)
D. (3/2,0)
E. (1,5)

I found the answer but I am sure that there is a shortcut way. Please help!

The midpoint of a segment is exactly halfway between its endpoints and it's location can be found using the Midpoint Theorem, which states:
• The x-coordinate of the midpoint is the average of the x-coordinates of the two endpoints.
• Likewise, the y-coordinate is the average of the y-coordinates of the endpoints.

So, x=(-5+5)/2=0 and y=(2+8)/2=5 --> coordinates of the midpoint are (0, 5).

Answer: B.

I think if u visualize it you can see that the mid-point of a line will be the center of the line however it may be aligned in the x-y plane. Thus (x1 + x2)/2 , (y1+ y2)/2 is the mid-point

I think in school we learnt this as the mid-point formula
