Guys,

Quick general question...the nickname for Cornell "Big Red"...is that used for past, future, present incumbents at the school.

E.g. we say Wolverines for Michigan or Wildcats for Kellogg...are they called "Big Reds"?

thanks

Hi everyone. I just had my Johnson interview with an adcom member over Skype (I explained how I wanted to go to Ithaca but couldn't due to the outrageous plane ticket costs - $1000/22 hour flight/9 hour overlay from Honolulu to Ithaca).

I was a bit nervous but the interview was very conversational. Went overtime (interview lasted almost an hour) but she said it was okay since we had a good conversation (Hope that's a good sign!)

So questions I was asked:

Tell me about yourself.
Why MBA, why now?
Why Cornell?
Tell me about leadership (example)
Greatest failure.
Weaknesses.
Strengths.
What is your greatest fear?
What other schools did you apply to?
How would you prepare for the quantitative portion of MBA? (Notes about my lack of quant classes and Verbal stronger than Quant GMAT from those who reviewed my application) I mentioned about possibly taking courses at the local university but not wanting my core courses to become redundant since a current student mentioned it happening to him. She mentioned the option of enrolling in (MBAMath. com) to prepare.
How would you contribute to the school?
Is there something I didn’t ask about but you would like me to know? Any concerns you have about your application that you would like to address?
Any questions?

So I'm planning to email my interviewer thanking her - any tips about what the contents should involve? And when? Current day? Next day?

Also, she told me that Consortium applicants should receive a decision by Feb. 21 (I applied through Consortium R2)

Try to write a thank you note within 24 hours of the interview.

The wait just keeps getting longer....any Indian applicants here still waiting to get an interview? Mine went under review on the 20th of December.

considering that we haven't had our app. status change to 'under review' yet, I'd say we're at least a month away.

Since the R2 decision date is 2/28 I would expect invites out that week or late the week before.

Did anyone who interviewed on Skype interview with someone other than a Ad-com member (Current Student, alumnus, etc.)?

Done with my interview. Telephonic. She said it was a blind interview and she has some notes about me and thats it.

25 mins.. very conversational.

1. Career progression till date
2. What roles have you played in each of the organizations you've worked in
3. Level of responsibility and decision making involved at work
4. Biggest decision you've had to take?
5. why mba
6. what have you done to prepare for your post MBA career?
7. why cornell
8. which schools have you applied to
9. Which are the clubs you want to be a part of
10. have you reached out to any current students? I said I did.. but none of them responded. She said she'll get back to me with a list of ambassadors who'll respond to my queries
11. Any questions? I said none. I reminded her to send me the list of ambassadors.

She said my quant is low. I told her i've updated my new score and have a 92%ile in quant. She noted it down.

I was not sure if she was a current student(cos she asked me the percentile when i said my quant is 50) and thats why i didnt ask her any questions about the immersion and all.. I had a lot of questions though(mainly about the clubs and immersion).

Will "not asking her any questions" come across as weird? Would they think i'm not interested in the school?

I think even if you don’t believe your interviewer is prepared to answer all of your questions, you probably should have asked. I don’t think it’ll be what decides a ding/waitlist/admit but I would be surprised if your interviewer did not make a note that you had no questions at all…

Damn! I know.. I should've asked. Lesson learnt for my next interview I guess! Thanks!

I submitted mine on Jan 25th (r3) and it went under review on Feb 1st. Adcom emailed me Jan 31st that they wanna see my master degree conferral so that I sent it and then it went under review.

I have a quick question.
I got an email that saying "your app is under review," but is there any other way you can check your application status, through website or something? :D
Thanks!

Yikes. Does your application status on the website still just say submitted? I would've thought it said 'under review' by now?

Ah ha! Thanks for the tip!
It still says "submitted" but additional comments,
"Submission Status: Submitted
Submitted Date: 1/25/2012 8:37:00 PM EST
Currently Under Review - We processed your application and supporting documents."
