The range of a set is the difference between the largest and the smallest numbers of the set.

Since the largest positive integer in the set is 9 and the smallest positive integer in the set is 1 then the range of the positive integers in the set 9-1=8.

given sequence is -6,-5,-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9

question is range of positive integers in the sequence

i,e. range of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 = 9 - 1 = 8

so answer is D

Hi,

I have a doubt. Is zero not an integer cos in that case the correct answer would be 9. Also, if we move along the number line from positive to negative on this particular question then zero is to be counted as a positive integer i suppose. Please settle my doubt.

Zero is neither positive/nor negative. Thus, the range will be calculated for (1-9) and that amounts to 8.
Also, just to add on, Zero is Even.

Many thanks. While i am aware of the properties of 'zero' but could not understand why did we not consider zero as an integer here as per the question stem.

From -6 to + 6 there are 13 integers (include zero as well)

Hence + 7, + 8 and + 9 become the remaining three integers.

The question asks the range of positive integers. The smallest positive integer in the list is 1 ( 0 is a non negative integer). The range is the difference between highest and the lowest value.

Range: 9 - 1 = 8

x-(-6)+1=16
x+6=15
x=9

so, 9-1=8

Least integer = -6

8th Integer = First +ve integer = 1

16th Integer = Last Integer = 9

Range = 9-1 = 8

Answer = D
