If you look carefully at the stem, you will notice that we are comparing drivers carrying insurance for leased vehicles and owners not carrying insurance. It doesn't mean that owners do not buy any auto collision insurance.

The correct answer will address the cause behind this. Option A does it correctly and best among other options. Option E says that owners do not purchase but risk cost of repairing, totally digressing from the situation.

Hope this helps. :-)

All drivers who lease the cars they drive carry automobile collision insurance, but many who own the cars they drive do not.

A) Automobile drivers are not required by law to carry collision insurance on the cars they drive, but automobile leasing companies require that a driver who leases a car to carry collision insurance.... CORRECT......I HAVE A NUMBER OF CARS BUT I DONT NEED TO INSURE THEM FOR DRIVING THEM SO I DONT... NOW OUT OF THESE I NEED TO LEASE SOME AND FOR THAT I NEED TO INSURE THOSE ......SO I LEASE ALL CARS WITH INSURANCE AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE BALANCE UNINSURED.......EXPLAINS THE DISCREPANCY................ CORRECT

IMO A

I think E is not the answer because it just explains the second half of the argument whereas A explains both the parts. :-D

Prethinking

What should be the reason for the below situation
driver with leased car - Insurance
driver with owned car - No Insurance

A) Automobile drivers are not required by law to carry collision insurance on the cars they drive, but automobile leasing companies require that a driver who leases a car to carry collision insurance.
-- Automobile --- they drive --> will result in no driver to carry the insurance,
Just because of the second condition Driver must have to have Insurance to drive leased car

B) Automobile drivers are not required by law to carry collsion insurance, and collision insurance is extremely expensive.
-- This is talking about all the drivers. not distinguishing between owned car drivers and leased car driver

C) Collision insurance is a sensible purchase only if the automobile it covers is under two years old.
-- Out of Scope

D) Most insurance companies prefer not to issue automobile collision insurance and are slow to pay when a policy holder makes a claim.
-- Again does not provide any reasoning to the argument

E) Many drivers who own their cars would rather risk the cost of repairing their vehicles in the event of an accident than pay for collision insurance.
-- This can be true for leased car drivers as well

Dear suramya26,

My friend, please do not post a question in a new thread unless you have already done a search for a question. I merged your post with the pre-existent post on the same topic. You may find an explanation here, and if you don't this would be the place to ask.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Easy Question:

We are given the a driver leasing the car carries automobile insurance while a driver who owns a car doesn't carry this insurance.

We need to find the reason/cause behind the same.

A) Automobile drivers are not required by law to carry collision insurance on the cars they drive, but automobile leasing companies require that a driver who leases a car to carry collision insurance. : Ok. So, If I won a car, I don't need to buy insurance but If I am leasing a car then that company will force me to carry this. Correct.

B) Automobile drivers are not required by law to carry collsion insurance, and collision insurance is extremely expensive. : Then why are they carrying this? No clear.
C) Collision insurance is a sensible purchase only if the automobile it covers is under two years old. : 2 years old?? We are no where given this info. Incorrect.

D) Most insurance companies prefer not to issue automobile collision insurance adn are law to pay when a policy holder makes a claim. : Ok? But how does it tell I have to have insurance card or not?

E) Many drivers who own their cars would rather risk the cost of repairing their vehicles in the event of an accident than pay for collision insurance. : ok. Is it? what about drivers who lease the car? Can't they also do so? not clear. Incorrect.

Dear chesstitans,

I'm happy to respond. :-)

First of all, notice the SVA error in your post:
... any CR questions that have only ,,,
The best way to master grammar is to practice it consistently in everything you write.

Some official CR problem have one-sentence prompts. For example, in the OG 2017, see CR #557 and #665. Admittedly, those are longer and "beefier" prompts than the anemic one above.

Hi,
Final selection between A and E
IMO in option E, if they are able to pay for repairing their vehicles then why can't they can pay for insurance. Until and unless some requirement is there which is given in option A
Hence selected Option A
Please correct me if I am wrong.

The problem with option E is that it solves only one side of conflict. It makes no mention or provides reasoning for the fact that leased cars' owners have insurance for their car.
