Sorry if I did not clearly mention the OA in the previous post. It is E. I chose A as well and was proved wrong!

Hello, I m not an expert but here is my view on it. Hope it helps.
Companies are rapidly adopting computer technology that uses faster processors, replacing technologies that have struggled to work on slower processors. It is thus evident that less processing time is now required for completing intensive computing tasks as a result.
It is strengthening question and please note that conclusion only talks about time. So we have to find an option which talks about time saving by faster processor in comparison to old processor.

Which of the following, if true, most strongly supports the statement above?

(A) Many of the industries that have switched at least partly to the new technologies have increased their output. - Ok output is increased, hold it.
(B) Faster processors require lower cost to manufacture than the processors employed in older technologies- Out of scope.we are not interested in cost.
(C) More processing power is used by those industries that have switched at least partly to the new technologies than by those industries that have not switched. out of scope
(D) Some of the industries that have switched at least partly to the new technology still use primary technologies that are powered by slower processors. Irrelevant.
(E) The amount of processing work done with older processors is 40% less than that done by the faster processors used in the new computing technology. it is promising one. if work done by fast processor is 10unit than work done by old processor is 4Unit. To work 10 unit, old procesoor will defineltly take more time.

Between A and E, E most strongly supports the conclusion hence is the winner.

Yes. I was able to eliminate B, C and D easily.

But I find A and E both equally good strengtheners. The OE says that A is incorrect since it considers partial implementation and that we can conclusively talk only about the results of a full implementation. I am not quite convinced with the OE.

The source is Edvento Mock Tests

I can see the point about A, but I find E to be ambiguous. E could refer to the difference in work between two comparable computers, or it could refer to what's happening in the industry as a whole.

That said, I suppose E is the lesser of two evils here.

Answer E, I used Work = Speed* time

Hi experts,
I can't discard option A.Could you please weight in with your thought?
My reasoning is that A is compare with task completed of the companies using old-fashioned technology with those that replace at least partly of their machines with newer ones;hence it somehow strengthen the conclusion.

Thanks :-)

Premise: Computers are faster.
Conclusion: Less time is required to complete task.

Option A supports the the conclusion in isolation (it has nothing to do with the premise-conclusion link), but the correct answer should support the LINK between the premise and conclusion. Hence option A is incorrect. ( Frequently such an option supporting only the conclusion is used as a trap.)

The comparison between the old and the new and the comparisons shows that the faster processors are better than the ones tha are old.

It isn't necessary that only because of the implementation of the technology the same happened could be for other reasons too .. (Basis of A's elimination)

Hi,
Since premise is mentioning companies so use of 'many industries' in option A is not wrong. But the implementation of partial technology is wrong as it is possible that intensive computing task may take same time in both new and old technology . Knowing the difference of processing between old and new technologies will bridge the gap between premise and conclusion.
