Hi,
I took GMATPREP EP1 test 3 and my verbal score was V35 (11 wrongs, had 6/30 and 5/11, got 4 wrong in sequence 34,35,36,37). I gave GMATPREP Test 2 earlier and scored V38 with 12 wrongs, 9/30 and 3/11. I remember the verbal analysis done by expert which proved, atleast for gmatprep that if you doing good in earlier question, which i think i was doing 6/30 (80%), last 11 questions do not bring down your scores as much. I think if you get 30/30 and get last 11 wrong, you can achieve V44.
My question is did anyone see this discrepancy? EP1 score does not look right. can someone share their experience or provide some insight?
I don't think you really should have doubts about the scoring algorithm of exam pack 1. I understand that you were a little thrown off by the discrepancies. But then think about it this way - you'd never get a chance to question the GMAC if the same thing happens on the Test day. You getting my point? try to fix those 11 wrongs you got i.e. analyze those 11 questions:
1. ask yourself what was so attractive about the wrong answer that drove you towards it
2. then, ensure that you NEVER EVER fall for those 11 traps again (at least).
I know my answer is not what you're looking for. I myself have bought EP1 and am yet to give those exams (which i will the coming next weekend) so i might be in a better position to comment on that after I've given them. But just a general advice that you should not worry about the algorithm (atleast of a GMATprep software). Moreover I don't really think EP1 would have a different algorithm altogether. The algo would be in the software. EP1 is just a question bank from which the software fetches the questions.
Another thing is that the analyses done by the experts here are just trials to debunk the myths (and not an attempt to decode the algorithm). You'd have to do more than at least a thousand attempts to really have even the slightest idea of how the algorithm works.
All the best to you brother. Extremely sorry that I couldn't answer your questions as I'm no expert. But just thought of sharing my thoughts.
