Re: Marshall (USC) Class of 2017 Calling all applicants! [#permalink]
Hi guys,
I have another questions regarding the admission.
I've heard a rumor saying that it is harder to get in if you go for R3 because of the quota limit. Is it true? (simply because more students have been admitted in R1 and R2)
and
Is it possible to send the official GMAT score later than the admission deadline?

thx for the help guys :))

Just had my interview with Marshall earlier today with a senior associate director, who also happened to be a Marshall grad. The interview was blind, as she only had my resume. It was conducted off-campus through Skype, but I didn't really see any major issues during the interview. I felt that I was able to establish good rapport with her, despite the non face-to-face interaction.

The interview questions were fairly standard, though I felt like I had a lot of explaining to do on my resume since my professional experience is widely varied and fairly confusing.

    1. Walk me through your resume.
    2. What made you move to xx country (where I am currently working)?
    3. Walk me through a typical day at your current job.
    4. Why do you want an MBA?
    5. Why USC? What clubs are you interested in?
    6. What are your short-term goals?
    7. What is your plan B if your immediate plans don't materialize?
    8. What is the biggest obstacle you have had to face?
    9. What kind of involvement of leadership positions did you have in undergrad?

All in all, I think the interview went well. There were a couple of research initiatives that I was interested in and happened to be the same ones that my interviewer had participated in when she was an MBA candidate at Marshall.

Thanks for sharing, do you mind posting your stats?

Sure, I'm currently working in bus dev/project mgmt in the maritime/oil & energy industry. I've been working abroad for the past year.

4 years working experience (upon matriculation)
710 GMAT, Q42 V44 IR8 AWA 4.0
Graduated from top 50 US university with a 3.36 in political science
Lots of involvement in uni, now volunteering at orphanages, organizing meetup groups for hiking trips, etc.

I don't have a standout profile, but the one thing that has given my application a boost is that my former supervisor (who wrote one of my rec letters) was a Trojan grad and the leader of his alumni association chapter, as well as a member of the Board of Governors for several years. USC really values legacy and alumni opinions, so I think this is what helped me get a shoe in the door.

Hey ppl, this is my first post. I am targeting R2. I have a few questions. Anyone who is already doing his/her course at Marshall? Can anybody help me out?

I'm not sure if this has been replied to yet, but I am a current first year student. Ask away and I'll do my best to answer!

Greekmythology: This is a very small list, but these are some of the companies I know have come through campus so far:

IBM, PayPal, SGN, Blizzard Entertainment, EA, Riot Games, Ericsson, Universal Studios, Paramount, Warner Bros., Mattel, Nestle, DC Entertainment, Live Nation, Yahoo!, DirecTv, Princess Cruises, Kaiser Permanente, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, Toms, etc. etc.

The big internship recruiting event is in January, so I'll have to report back then. In fact, I'm actually running my own startup right now and doing the entrepreneurial/tech thing. Also, I'm not sure about consulting. I can try to find out for you, though.

Can't tell you just yet about jobs, but the Trojan Network is great. I just had a fun time last month at a USC-only event in Vegas with an alumni from the Trojan Network. Can't complain there.

Sounds great. . I think it would be a great place to go. Its hard to get back to cali once you leave. ( Just visited a friend in chicago and wow I forgot how cold the east coast is). My only real concern with USC is their job placement rate but Ill take a visit before R2 deadline to check it out.

It's very hard to get back here, I was gone for almost 5 years after going to CA for undergrad too. Definitely stop by for a visit, we have some great ambassadors who will show you around.

No I don't think so. Marshall seems to be painfully slow

It was a pretty standard interview. Although I am a bit worried as for some reason she couldn't hear my voice clearly.

1)Why MBA now?
2)Do you want to work in the US?
3)How did you find about Marshall? Why Marshall?
4) Asked me about how i transitioned roles in my company.
5)Tell me about a challenging individual you had to work with
6)What achievement are you most proud of?
7)What am i proud of personally
8)Questions for me.

Good Luck.

You really thing the Program, which has already been plagued by bad press, is going to advertise it?

He didn't even read the apps. He was just there. It happened recently anyway.

No, I'm just asking where you got the information since I didn't find anything about it online.

Through with the interview. No standard questions for me. It was very conversational as the interviewer had already been through my profile, and touched upon almost everything I had mentioned in my essays and resume.

Any idea if the Ad Com will call international students or will it be over email only? Also, will all the results be declared today or will it go on for a few days starting today?
