Re: Calling all Madison Applicants (2015 Intake) Class of 2017 [#permalink]
I am confused as to choose which specialisation while applying - OTM or BPM

My career goal is to become a product manager in high-tecg industry.

But the issue here is OTM concentrates on Tech and operations whereas I want to become a product manager who needs to know a lot about Marketing as well. So the courses in BPM is suited for me as well.

As an Indian I am confused about it. I want to learn enough about marketing so that I can become product manager but the presence of just 1 Indian/international student in BPM class of 2016 scares me.

Do you think it is better for me to take OTm over BPM? Any advice is welcome. Thanks

Can not give you advice, but my understanding is that Brand Management is more suited to candidates who are inclined towards consumer-focused industries like CPG. If you want to be in tech, i guess the otm concentration might be better suited to you.

Just a quick question to any current students/admitted guys.. if I choose some specialization in the start of the Madison application and luckily if I get an admit is it possible to change that specialization while selecting the electives or do we have to stick by that only.Would really appreciate if some of you guys can throw some light on this?

Thanks

I think if a current student is present in the forum, then he/she can answer.

I am in for Round 2 for OTM. In round 1, the interview invites started going out after 8-9 days. So I believe the interview invites should start going out from around 11th-12th feb. Fingers crossed.

Hi Anuj, i don;t think that is possible. I'm saying this from my experience with the marketing research specialization: throughout the application process, my entire interaction was directly with the nielsen center. The interview was also conducted directly by the center, and the school in general had no interaction with me. So after getting an admit, i don't think you can change your specialisation to any other center.

This is only what i have observed, i guess you should get in touch with the school directly to have an official word on this.

I agree, it is best to check with them because even if they might have allowed it in the past, we do not know if things might have changed now. I had a friend who studied at Madison and he was able to change his specialization mid-way through the program (I think the second year is when the specialization courses start in most of the schools anyway).

I received an invite to interview yesterday (Feb 09), so just a couple of days after submitting the application. I applied for the Applied Security Analysis Program. I'm an Indian temporarily in the United States.

I attended the prospective student event in October 2014 and the admissions committee answered this question. Once in a great while, and with extenuating circumstances, they will allow it, but it is very clearly the exception and not the rule. Hope that helps!
