Hi,
I would like a profile evaluation and a list of schools I should consider applying to in R1 for the Fall 2016 session.
GMAT-710/800, Q 49 V 37, IR-5, AWA-not yet received
Academics:
4 Year Bachelors in Technology(Class of 2012) in Chemical Engineering from NIT Durgapur (one of the top engineering colleges in India; NITs come right after IITs in rankings and reputation)
Cumulative GPA - 7.70/10
Work Experience: 2.5 years
Currently working as a Junior Manager in Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL-a Public Sector Undertaking), India's largest steelmaker.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Looking after plant operations and production as shift-in-charge of 2 plant units ( By-Product Plant and BOD Plant) and leading the operations team ( assistants & operators-10, skilled & unskilled contract workers-20-27)
2. Monitoring process parameters and ensuring smooth and stable operation of the plant
3. Organizing regular safety meetings to make the workforce aware of safety hazards, precautions to be taken, importance of using PPEs(personal protective equipment), and harmful effects of the various liquid and gaseous chemicals generated and used in the plant. Ensuring proper distribution of PPEs among the workforce while they're on the job
4. Training new recruits of the workforce in order to make them competent enough for carrying out operational jobs.
5. Supervising the proper packaging and dispatch of end products, namely coal tar, ammonium sulfate and sulfur.
6. Keeping track of the stock of packaging materials and PPEs, notifying the head of the department regarding fresh procurement of the same
7. Reporting faulty equipment and instruments to the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance teams and ensuring quick repair to resume normal operation
8. Giving out work permits and ensuring proper safety while maintenance teams are carrying out risky jobs like work at a height, work in confined space etc.
Achievements:
Was part of the commissioning team of the plant in both companies where I worked:
1. JSW Steel Ltd's first Coke Dry Quenching Unit- in collaboration with technology provider Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp, Japan and commissioning partner- Beijing JC Energy & Environmental Engineering Company Ltd, China.
2. New By Product Plant at SAIL's IISCO Steel Plant- in collaboration with technology provider DMT GmbH & Co. KG, Germany and commissioning partner- Mcnally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd, India.
Gained knowledge of the new technology from the technology provider and imparted the same to the operations workforce through repeated training sessions in order to make them competent enough for operation before the commissioning deadlines.
Extra Curricular Activities:
Not much. I participated in numerous quiz and group discussion contests in college and won 3 awards, 2 in group discussion and 1 in a technical quiz.
I am interested in pursuing my MBA in Operations Management in the US and thereafter working in the manufacturing/technology sector.
The schools I'm interested in are:
MIT Sloan(especially the LGO program)
Carnegie Mellon Tepper
Michigan Ross
UC Berkeley Haas
Should I make some changes to this list?
