But this does not differentiate between the applicants who have self initiated interviews compared to the ones who have been invited for interview. Any clue where we can get such info?
I doubt it's materially different than the general pop.
Agreed - Tuck really digs it when you take the initiative to show them some love.
I would disagree. I think there is going to be a higher acceptance rate for those who are invited. While it may not be significantly higher, those who were invited passed through an initial screening and those who self-initiated didn't. Thus the group who was invited doesn't include those who never had a chance of getting in dragging down their acceptance rate.
Yes, but you're assuming that the admissions committee places equal emphasis on the two groups, whereas virtually all communication from them indicates that they want people to take the initiative and get themselves out there. They even go so far as to asking you WHY you didn't take advantage of the open interview. Clearly they want you to do that, unless you have a really good reason.
I don't know the general applicant pool, but when I was there interviewing there weren't any people that struck me as obviously unqualified. Agree to disagree, but either scenario is just as likely. All I'm saying is that I doubt there is a "material" difference. There could be and there's no way for any of us to know.
