Urgent, please help!! UF or ND?

Urgent, please help!! UF or ND? [#permalink] New post   03 Apr 2015, 08:52
I was fortunate enough to get a full scholarship offer from University of Florida (Hough) and an admit from Notre Dame Mendoza (don't think I'm getting any $$ but its possible I could get funding later)

Living in Florida would be great of course and the program is shorter and doesn't seem as demanding as Mendoza's (not sure if this is a plus or minus). I would be very comfortable not having to worry about tuition. At the same time, I would like to go to the best MBA program I can go to. I'm always going to be an alumni of whichever school I pick so saving money may not matter much down the line.

Are their rankings significantly different? Will i sound better as a full scholarship recipient from UF or a regular MBA student at Notre Dame?

I'm an entrepreneur and would like to go into consulting or brand management as an option B. please help!! I need to decide ASAP. Thanks!!

Are you doing the One Year at UF or 2? Check out what region UF graduates end up working and see if that's your cup of tea (I couldn't quickly find this info).

Thanks for your reply! One year at both. But the traditional option B program at UF is just 10months. Most of their graduates end up in Florida which I don't mind. Notre Dame is close to the Chicago area and I wouldn't mind working there either.

First, I should inform you my answer will contain some bias as I have lived near Notre Dame my whole life. So take that into account.

My experience with ND Alumni is unparalleled with any other school. ND Alumni are quite helpful and willing to help anyone, especially fellow Alumni. This is why Notre Dame is rated as having one of the strongest Alumni networks because you really do become Notre Dame for life. In addition, Notre Dame has a significant positive impact in communities throughout the world, which parallels my own ambitions.

If the financial impact isn't very great, then I would absolutely recommend Notre Dame!

I did my undergrad at UF, and I would recommend Mendoza over UF for an MBA. Mendoza has a stronger brand nationally; Hough does not have much recognition outside the state of Florida. Since the MBA job market in Florida is relatively weak, having a strong brand here in the state is not as important as it may seem.

ND also has a much stronger alumni base, higher student quality, and higher starting salary. There is a reason why Mendoza is 12 spots ahead of UF in the U.S. News rankings.

If you are looking to go to the best school of the two, go to Mendoza. And yes, in my opinion an MBA from Notre Dame "sounds" better than a full-ride from UF, for what it's worth.
