Hello kind gmatclub members,
I am posting this with the hope that someone in this vast, wonderful community will be able to shed some light on my current situation:
I have studied almost every day for 2.5 months using the 2013 original guide and all of the MGMAT books. Here is an outline of how I've studied so far:-Feb 15-Mar 15:
OG (quant q's),
MGMAT Quant study guides
-Mar 16-Apr 16:
OG (verbal q's),
MGMAT Verbal study guides
-Apr 18: Princeton Review Free CAT: Q: 40 V: 39 Total: 640-Apr 19 - 23: Reviewed math problems in
OG and looked through
MGMAT study guides (I hadn't done math for a month before writing the Princeton CAT)
-Apr 24: MGMAT Free CAT: Q: 40 V: 32 Total: 590 (didn't finish 4 verbal questions-partly b/c of a distraction during the test, partly because I was rattled by the difficulty of the Q section.)-Apr 25: Veritas Prep Free CAT: Q: 43 V: 34 Total: 630 Comments on CATS:Verbal:-RC and CR: typically only get 1-2 of each of these types of questions wrong
-SC: When I'm writing a CAT it seems like I forget everything I've learned about SC.
In all of the CATs I wrote, I got more than half of the SC questions wrong. This leads me to believe I need to develop a plan of attack that I can apply to each question
-Overall, I'm not too worried about verbal. I am confident that I will be able to improve on SC so that I regularly score in the 38-42 range
Quant: I was quite surprised by how low my Q scores were. A big part of the problem is my timing. I almost always have to skip 4 or 5 questions. Also, for the
MGMAT Cat, I find they base the problems LARGELY around specific tricks they teach in their books. I find the
OG questions FAR easier, as I am more easily able to just "figure out" how to do the questions without knowing all these little tricks. I would not be surprised if I was at a 43-44 range in Q if I wrote the mba . com prep tests.
Questions!1. What is the best way to improve SC? I am considering reading through the
MGMAT SC guide again thoroughly. I was also considering purchasing GMAT Pill SC.
2. What on earth should I do about the quantitative section as a whole? I have always been good at math, I just can't seem to get through the problems quickly enough. I am considering going through a bunch of quantitative questions and looking back through the
MGMAT guides on problems I have issues with. As I do this, I assume I will learn more and more of the little tricks that help to speed things up. By the way.. I don't have access to
MGMAT's online questions or tests. Should I purchase a book so I can access these? Do the CAT's draw from the same question bank (i.e. will practicing with this online bank of questions ruin the CATs for me)?
My test day is MAY 15th ..... I may have to move this to a later date... Although.. I don't currently have any commitments that prevent me from studying all day, every day.
