We are gearing up for an upgrade of the Verbal Test scoring algorithm and supposed to deploy it within a few days ... I am wondering if that may have something to do? We were not supposed to have anything done today though.... very odd case indeed. It is thanksgiving here so I am unlikely to get many answers right away :(

by the way, I have noticed that workbook doesn't show accurate information on overall score...for ex. it shows now 49Q and 25V while 2 days ago it was 49Q and 37V
the problem is that even for 49q and 25v, the score would be over 600 :)

Thank you! I will have it looked into as well.

Just wanted to check if issues with the Verbal CAT were resolved or if I should wait a while longer before giving one!

Thanks in advance!

Thank you and sorry for not following up.
Yes, the issue should not happen. It seems to be a side effect of the recent algorithm change we implemented.
Thank you for feedback and your suggestions!

THank you

something's wrong with GMATClub tests... [#permalink]
Just ended up getting V30 in gmatclub cat with 11 incorrect (a couple of them debatable), which were spread out. The CATs are not adaptive at all, also I am unable to understand how the scoring is done. Is there anyone else, facing the same issue?

I have not had any problems with the test. Although i am getting different scores with large gaps which is quite suspicious.

especially verbal one..
I have just finished the Verbal CAT, and I got 5 RC passages!!!!!
Moreover, in the end, I was just receiving a lot of 500 lvl questions, one after another. how come that when I answer correctly a bunch of questions, the difficulty level does not increase?
7 questions (CR&SC) of 500 level one after another answered correctly - this is non-sense!!!
or in the middle, answered a series of question correctly, but again 500-600 level. answered 500, difficulty went up to 600 for 1 question, then again 500 lvl...

They are adaptable but the may not be adaptable in a simplistic view of adaptability. There are more elements to the test than just difficulty, you also have various topics that are tested. For example, you may score well on a level 35 Assumptions CR question and now you need a level 36 Subject Verb Agreement question from SC. If the system does not have that exact level, it will pick the closest one and depending on the situation and how many questions you have used up, you may have a level 40 or even 30 SVA SC question. That's why the quant tests are much more flexible since the database is so much bigger. Anyway, that's just one example. There are also other things such as experimental questions that do not usually follow the general pattern of the question flow. We use them to throw you off and teach people an important lesson about the test-taking experience.... I can keep writing a page more about the official vs. unofficial algorithm, mistakes, and difficulty levels... but I will stop so I am not wasting everyone's time here.

bb - yeah..over 2 years since then! So much has happened during this period of time!

I believe what the "problem" was, is that i already took the test several times, and the "difficult" questions pool ran out of options, thus, threw at me whatever it was available :)
