Hummmm a scenario here:
You ask a girl out, she told you "aww sorry I don't think it will work...but hey I got a less popular cousin why don't you take her out instead!"

that's how it feels. but I guess Anna Kendrick's less popular cousin would still have that good genes in her.

all jokes aside, it seems like MIT does not really do extra screening, but just sends out e-mails to attract more cash cows blindly. this is sad.

Quick question- am applying in R2 and I just got a new boss like 5 weeks ago. Should I use my former boss( with another company) or my present boss?

The primary principle would be to use the person who can provide the more accurate and full reference/recommendation. That could be your former boss, and you could easily explain it away given it was only 5 weeks ago.

Completely agree. Always aim for the one that can provide a good personal touch to the recommendation that goes beyond just "oh yeah he/she is a good worker full of potential, yeah".

Also, I think it would be easier to ask your previous manager to write it than asking your current one anyway....assuming you left on a good note, that is.

My manager left, not me.

Indeed, 30th was the last date made available to me. Had to push it given work obligations.

Interviewed by Admission Director on 29th Nov

-- Carry your business card ( The adcom gave me his card before beginning the interview, I was not carrying mine)
-- Started off with Has anything changed from your previous application?
-- Dwelled on Resume , work profile
-- Several Behavioral questions , and then probed deeply on how did i behave in those situations, what was I thinking, what was the other guy thinking, why did I behave in that particular fashion, What were the repercussions, etc.
--> Tell me about a situation when u implemented a creative solution
--> Tell me about a situation when u were assigned to a broken process and you corrected it
--> Tell me about a time when u faced a difficult situation with your subordinates
-- What do you want to do post MBA?
-- Why Sloan?
-- Last question was .. We have very less time left, so you could either ask me a question or you could tell me something more about yourself that is not there in your resume or that we have not covered so far. ( I chose to talk abt myself :/)

All the best.

For those who have heard back from the adcom, please update your profile to properly reflect the current situation. This serves as a crucial indicator for the other applicants who are still waiting. Thanks!

For behavioral interviews experts:

I was not "probed deeply" like many interviewees report. Maybe a couple of questions here and there about what I did or how I felt. Is that a bad thing?

Well mine was very conversational too. Two behavior questions then all about my personal decisions on pursuing this after that. Talked for like 45 minutes. We will see how it turns out soon.

Mine also ended up being mostly conversational. It started with a couple behavioral questions but turned into just a conversation about random things, my life, the adcom's life, and ended with a why Sloan and why MBA. It went over to about an hour and I got the impression it went very well.
