One number is five more than half a second number, which is evenly divisible by a third number. What is the second number?

(1) The first number is one less than the second.
(2) The third number is two less than half the second.

Let one number be x and second number be y and third number be z.
According to the problem : x =0.5y +5 & y is divisible by z evenly.
Statement (1) says x = y-1 So, y-1= 0.5y +5 =>y=12 Sufficient
Statement (2) says z=0.5y - 2 So, y is divisible by 0.5y-2 gives many values for y. Hence not sufficient.

Let one number be x and second number be y and third number be z.
According to the problem : x = 5 + y/2 & y is divisible by z --> y/ z = a --> y = a * z

1. x = y - 1 --> y-1 = 5 + y/2. Only one unknown variable. Therefore, sufficient. Cross off BCE options.
2. z= y/2 - 2 --> y = a * (y/2 -2). Two unknowns. Therefore, insufficient

Answer is A

Tricky one this
Statement 1 is suff as X=y/2 -5 and X=y-1 => y=12
Statement 2 => Here z=y/2-2 okay but y/z must be an integer too
lets do some test cases here => y=6 => z=1 => yes
y=12 z=4 => Yes
Okay multiple cases => Insuff
