Does anyone know what kind of jobs Owen grads get in tech? Amazon, for example, hired 12 Owen grads last year. When I looked on LinkedIn, it looked like several are in logistics in the greater Nashville area, not the standard leadership dev type position in Seattle that higher ranked schools send grads into.
Hey whitman,
In my graduating class (2016), there are at least three students heading to Seattle for jobs at Amazon. Two have accepted offers to be Senior Product Managers and one is going into the RLD Program. There are a bunch (8-10ish) from this year's class heading into Amazon's Pathways Operations program. They get to choose where they will work and have selected spots in Florida, Texas, California, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Washington among other places. Owen often places people into HR roles at Amazon but I do not know if any of my classmates this year will be doing that.
In regards to other jobs in tech, in the class of 2016 there are folks headed to:
-Google for a business development role on the East Coast (they interned in Mountain View and then chose to go full-time out East)
-Microsoft in Redmond for HR
-Microsoft on the East Coast for business development
-Genentech (BioTech & Pharma) for Marketing
Last summer, students from the class of 2016 interned at several major tech companies including:
-Intel (Finance)
-Tesla (Strategy)
-Uber (Marketing)
-Sony PlayStation Network (Marketing)
I am not sure who is returning. At least a couple of these people decided not to return full-time because they wanted to go into consulting.
Folks also interned at major tech/telecom companies including:
-AT&T (Finance & LDP)
-Verizon (Marketing)
-Sprint (Business Performance Management)
And several interned at Tech Startups/Healthcare tech companies such as:
-Move Loot (Strategy)
-MEDarchon (Clinical Knowledge Expert)
-Narus Health (IT Consultant)
-InvisionHeart (Internal Consulting)
People also interviewed with (and some turned down offers from):
-HP (HR & Marketing)
-Dell (Ops & Finance)
-Cisco (HR)
-Apple (IT Ops)
I hope this gives you a better idea. You could reach out directly to the Owen Tech Club if you want a better lay of the land.
